Recently uploaded The Berwick Code to YouTube - a short film made with some of our Berwick collaborators about the myth of ongoing warfare between Berwick upon Tweed and Russia. It quashes the myth and adds a bit of fun about what might have been......

Just posted details of two Heritage Open Day events at Holy Trinity, Goodramgate, York on Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 September: a family-friendly, A-Z trail around the church on both days plus short performances at various times on each afternoon.
Cast includes Daniel Wilmot and Janice Newton-Barnes.
There's no charge but donations to the Churches Conservation Trust, which looks after this magnificent building, are encouraged!

Tempests in Berwick upon Tweed (21-24 Sept) was terrific . The semi-derelict Penny Lodging House is the perfect venue for the style of performance (as we found out last year with Figures Half Unreal) and the frame story of an exhibition marking the play's 400th anniversary encouraged the audience to walk from room to room encountering the actors, and the set. An upturned boat provided a wonderful lair for Caliban and Ariel's songs (music commissioned from Peter Keenan and performed by Tamsin Davidson) gave an air of mystery and intensity. Miranda's quadruple-sized bed drew gasps of envy! We collected lots of positive responses from the audience:
'Thoroughly surreal. My first viewing of a play by Shakespeare. A stunning and engaging experience.'
Great - has made me want to go back and re-read the play for the first time in 40 years!'
'It was great, better than I expected.' (11-yr-old girl)
'Fantastic experience in a truly awesome building.'

Glowing review from the York Press! Our second performance is tonight, 7.30pm at Holy Trinity Goodramgate.

A DRAMATISATION of the past deserves a historic and atmospheric setting. For Hidden Voices, put on by the ReStage company, the ancient and beautiful Holy Trinity Church, Goodramgate, effortlessly provided that intensity for the production's inaugural performance last night.

A brief piece on ReSTAGE's next play. One week until we open!

TUCKED away behind Goodramgate, Holy Trinity Church is a haven of tranquillity. But once it was at the centre of a bustling community. Now a York-based performance group, ReStage, hopes to bring to life some of these generations of lost people who lived in its shadow.
