I'm absolutely thrilled to announce that Icelandic bass Stefán Arngrímsson will be joining North Wales Opera Company and Studio to sing the role of The Commendatore in our Don Giovanni on August 1st at Llangollen Town Hall.
Stefan was a student of David's when he was travelling regularly to Iceland to teach. Stefan is visiting North Wales for the first time with his wife and is particularly looking forward to being in Llangollen. .
We are honoured to have him ..it will be great experience for our students to work with and sing along side such a seasoned performer ..
Stefán Arngrímsson (born Akureyri, Iceland August 9 1960). Icelandic bass. Studied at the Reykjavik School of Singing 1983-1988, where his voice teachers included Guðmundur Jónsson, Þuríður Pálsdóttir, Kristinn Hallsson, and Eiður Gunnarsson. Following his graduation, he studied with Pier Miranda Ferraro in Milan for two years. Later he would study with Manfred Schenk, David Bartleet, Kristján Jóhannson, and David Jones. He has attended master classes with Andreas Schmidt, Anthony Hose, Corado Cassati, and Gerrit Schuil. He debuted in 1986 in the role of Dr. Dulcamara, in a student production of L’Elesir D’Amore. Further student performances as Dr. Bartolo ( Figaro) and Sarastro would follow. His professional debut occurred the same year at the National Theatre, when he featured as the Gaoler in Tosca. For the next years he sang various parts with the National Theatre, The Reykjavik City Theatre, The Akureyri Municipal Theatre, The East Iceland Opera Studio, and The Skagafjörður Opera Company. Roles include Colline, Baltasar, Padre Guardiano, Il Commendatore, Seneca, Heremit, Sparafucile, Don Basilio, Il Grande Inquisitore, Rocco, Daland, and even the odd venture into the bass-baritone fach as Porgy. Mr. Arngrímsson possesses a rich, dark coloured, large true basso profondo voice wich is ideally suited to the works of Verdi and Wagner.
