Year one proved what DD3D could make.

Year two is about what DD3D can solve.

Recent work for a UK scientific-instrument manufacturer included two very different challenges: a custom TPU gasket designed to fit a specific instrument enclosure, and an assembly jig developed to hold delicate optical components securely during manufacturing.

The blue jig was the first prototype. Testing led to refinement—and ultimately to the finished tool now being put to work.

These are not products destined for an online shop. They are practical solutions designed around real manufacturing needs.

That is what happens behind the print.

Year two: engineered to solve problems.

Designed. Developed. Manufactured in Sussex.

DD3D turns one today. To celebrate, I'm launching the next creative branch:

Tree & Sprocket is live.

Built at the meeting point between nature and engineering—clothing for those who build, endure and keep moving.

The Founder’s Collection begins with four original designs:

001 — The Forge
004 — The Oak
008 — The Lighthouse
009 — The Wolf

Each carries its own story. Each is printed on black organic cotton and available in sizes S–5XL.

This is the first chapter of a 24-design collection exploring what we build, what we endure, what we become, what we leave behind—and who stands beside us along the way.

Rooted in resilience. Shaped by purpose. Built different.

One year ago today, Diesel Daydreamer 3D began with one printer, one idea and a determination to make something useful.

The first problem became the first product: a cover designed to protect the exposed ECU in the Audi Q7 4L.

Since then, more than 100 of those original covers have been supplied across six countries. One printer has become a fleet of six, and DD3D has grown into automotive parts, R&D prototypes, small-batch manufacturing and bespoke projects.

This year, that journey was recognised at the UK Enterprise Awards, where DD3D received:

Best Innovation in 3D Printed Manufacturing 2026 – South East England.

I am incredibly proud of how far DD3D has come in its first year—and deeply grateful to every customer, supporter and person who trusted me to turn an idea into something real.

One year in. Just getting started.

3D printing is the last step.

Before a part ever reaches a printer, there is a problem to understand, measurements to take, a solution to design, and usually more than one revision to get right.

The Audi Q7 4L ECU cover is a perfect example.

It started with a simple problem: an exposed ECU that needed protection. From there came the CAD work, prototypes, testing and revisions before the finished cover was ready to manufacture.

It became the first product in the DD3D range.

Today, more than 100 of the original Q7 4L ECU covers have been supplied across six countries.

That is what happens behind the print.

The product that started DD3D.

The ECU area on the Audi Q7 4L can be vulnerable to water reaching places it shouldn’t. I designed this cover to fit over the ECU and help divert that water away.

What began as one practical solution has now reached Q7 owners in six countries, with more than 100 original Q7 4L ECU covers supplied.

Designed, manufactured and finished in Sussex, with the red Audi rings as standard.

August marks the first anniversary of Diesel Daydreamer 3D.

DD3D officially turns one on 14 August, but the story began with something very simple: one printer and a desire to make useful things.

Since then, that single printer has become a fleet of six. The original Q7 ECU cover has reached owners across six countries, customer questions have become new products, and DD3D has been named Best Innovation in 3D Printed Manufacturing 2026 – South East England.

Over the next two weeks, I’ll be sharing more of that journey: the products, the problems they solve, what is currently being developed—and where DD3D goes next.

One year in, and I’m only getting started.

I haven’t posted in a while—but that doesn’t mean I haven’t been doing anything.

On the contrary, DD3D has been quietly growing into something amazing, and today SME News named Diesel Daydreamer 3D as a winner in the 2026 UK Enterprise Awards:

Best Innovation in 3D Printed Manufacturing 2026 – South East England

I am incredibly proud—and when I first received the nomination, genuinely surprised too.

From a single printer and a desire to create nice things, to a fleet of six printers producing helpful and useful parts, DD3D has become an award-winning business—less than one month before its first anniversary.

You can see the official announcement here:

I’ve come a long way in a very short time—but I’m just getting started.
