โจ Inclusion in action! โจ
One of our absolute favourite highlights from this yearโs St Peterโs Festival was looking out and seeing the incredible diversity of our beautiful community. ๐โค๏ธ
As we looked around on the day, we saw a mix of different dress styles, heard a beautiful tapestry of languages being spoken, and welcomed single visitors, couples, groups of friends and generations from families. From skipping children, laid back teens, folk on walking sticks to those cruising on mobility scooters, it truly felt like a space where everyone belonged.
But there was one specific moment that completely made the day for our festival organizer, Rachael. After a pretty exhausting week dealing with some tough social media backlash running up to the event, she was feeling a tad tired and emotionally bruised.
Then, she saw them: a wonderful troop of care and support workers pushing wheelchairs from a local care home. ๐ฅน๐
Rachael headed straight over to welcome them with open arms. She pointed them toward the "Silver Stand"โa space with tables and chairs weโd set aside all day for our oldest visitors. When Rachael is not organising this festival she works in a similar care home, so she told the group that they were welcome to rearrange the tables and chairs in the Silver Section however they needed so that they could all sit, relax, and enjoy some refreshments together. And later on, thatโs exactly what they did! ๐ฐโ๏ธ
This is what community is all about, folks ๐๐พ. Thank you to everyone who came out, brought their joy, and helped us create a festival where everyone has a seat at the table. ๐ชโจ
