Located in the heart of Woolwich opposite the Greenwich Council building / Woolwich Library, we are within 5-10 mins walking distance of the DLR and railway station and are served by many bus routes. Woolwich, South East London, has not had a cinema for over 20 years or a theatre for nearly 60 years. In the past, it was home to 4 major theatres and cinemas worthy of the West End. Woolwich has rece
ntly been the subject of many millions of pounds of infrastructure investment and urban regeneration. Thanks to new transport links, it is now only 20 minutes from the Centre of London and it will be served by Cross Rail in the future. Thanks to the regeneration, Woolwich hosted many events for the 2012 Olympic Games
We are a small group of individuals from Woolwich who are committed to transforming the former ABC Cinema in the centre of the town into something that Woolwich and the wider area can be proud of. With the events being staged at The Woolwich Grand our vision is that the theatre is the cultural hub of Woolwich enriching the lives of the people living here. We have started to hold regular film nights and other events so we are well on to our way to meeting our original vision below. The Woolwich Grand Theatre will be a major community arts centre in the centre of Woolwich. It will feature a 2 screen cinema (screening a combination of mainstream films, together with the work of independent filmmakers), 400 seat theatre, 60 seat studio/gallery space, cafe/bar/restaurant. It will be the host of a full a varied programme of cultural events to appeal to a broad base of ages and ethnicities. There will be festivals, community theatre productions, art exhibitions and well known t.v personalities coming to perform. We want to create an artistic hub for the area which so richly deserves it. Join us in making history for this community. Follow our progress, come and visit, come and volunteer. You can be part of this. We hope to see you soon! All best wishes
