Dr. Otis Williams, sole surviving, founding member of the legendary Temptations, turns 82 today!! Please join management, the group, the band, fellow artists, family, and friends from across the globe in celebrating this special day.
Affectionately known as “Dubmeister” by his longtime manager Shelly Berger, and the “Oak” by Smokey Robinson, and “Otis ‘O-Dub’ Williams” by his Temptations’ brothers & band, Otis is “the glue” that has kept The Temptations, one of the longest running American Music Institutions of all time, going for more than 61 years, and counting.
Otis defied all odds, having gone from the dirt roads of rural Texas to the highest heights of the entertainment world and beyond. From award-winning singer, songwriter to critically acclaimed author, from television producer to executive producer of the new album and The Broadway musical, Ain’t Too Proud: The Life and Times of The Temptations, Otis is one of America’s national treasures.
Still performing, Otis, a global superstar is the chief architect of The Temptations’ evolution throughout the 20th and 21st centuries. The Temptations ranked #1 in Billboard magazine’s most recent list of “Greatest R&B/Hip-Hop Artists of All Time,” and “My Girl” was just ranked #3 among Billboard’s 500 Best Pop Songs. Otis and The Temptations have been awarded more than 50 Gold, Platinum, and Multi-Platinum awards and received five Grammy® Awards, including the Recording Academy’s Lifetime Achievement Grammy®. Hall of Famers, The Temptations’ legacy, influence, and contributions to American culture are monumental.
