ShareSpace: Freelance Artists Network (FAN) Sharing Session 11am Monday 11th December at Wolverhampton Art Gallery .
Please book by 9am 7th December to ensure we have booked your lunch! There’s still a few places left: https://www.ticketsource.co.uk/curiosity/t-qjxeeam

If you’d like to connect with Black Country artists come along to find out more about what exciting work is being developed by local creatives.
We have a fantastic line-up of speakers giving 3-minute ‘lightning talks’ about what they are working on, an idea or a skill they’d like to share.

There will also be an opportunity to hand out flyers or printed information about your work and time to chat informally after the presentations. If this format works and there are more people who wish to present, we will hold more similar events in the future. We will be asking for feedback on this event and what else FAN could be doing.

Event schedule:
11.00am Arrivals, tea & coffee
11.15am ‘Lightning talk’ presentations by Black Country artists and creatives.
12.15pm networking and lunch
1.00pm Finish

The speakers:
Peter Chand - The power and importance of oral storytelling in the 21st Century.
Tamar Dixon - Dance writer and blogger with a new community dance CIC that celebrates wellbeing.
Inge Hill – Research and support for creative professionals.
Jefny Ashcoft – Playwright highlighting Wolverhampton life.
Soheila Javaheri – ‘’Visual poetry’’ 5-5-7.
Marcus Johnson - Encouraging creative art and expression with drug and alcohol addiction support services.
Arun Kapur - Wolverhampton film festival and more events in Wolverhampton.
Sahjan Kooner - Digital processes and development of websites for art.
Michael Petalengro - Intaglio printing.
Kupid Val-Essone - More things that Music Freelancers have to offer.
Bones – Ther’arty’, using poetry to combat negative emotions and self empowerment.

FAN is a new network that Curiosity Productions are developing with Black Country freelance artists. FAN aims to raise the profile and advocate for freelance artists and creatives in the Black Country and beyond, find paid work for its members and develop their careers. This is our first FAN event and we’d love to meet anyone who would like to join the network.

This event is part of ShareSpace - a series of events that invite you to share ideas, share skills and connect with creatives, artists and community groups across the Black Country produced by Curiosity Productions for Creative Black Country.

Welcome to the Freelance Artists Network.

FAN’s Mission & Values:

FAN aims to raise the profile and advocate for freelance artists and creatives in the Black Country and beyond, find paid work for its members and develop their careers.

FAN advocates that all professional artists should be paid fairly for their work.

We aim to support each other, by developing our skills and working co-operatively. E.g. sharing opportunities and commissions; giving each other practical advice; passing on contacts and recommendations.

We will exploit opportunities to publicise our work in the region. By consistently putting FAN’s name out there we aim to become the ‘go to’ network for local councils, businesses and strategic organisations to reach freelance creatives in the region.

Serve our communities by searching out and creating community based opportunities.

Use intelligent audience development to stimulate demand for our creative work.

Equity, Access and Inclusion:
• Question and challenge systemic marginalisation* and our own unconscious bias.
• Be anti-racist and anti-ableist in our creative messages and practice.
• Be pro-active in asking how we can make our work more accessible and inclusive.
