Our Story
Wivenhoe has a long-held reputation for creativity in its many guises, with artists migrating to its waterside location for kinship and inspiration. For decades, studios have been thrown open to the public, offering a myriad of artistic endeavours from painting to ceramics, prints to textiles, and a wealth of quality crafted items in between. This artistic reputation is never more in evidence than in the run-up to Christmas, a tradition where art seekers enjoy a unique and altogether more enjoyable method of Christmas shopping, where a map indicates a network of studios, homes and galleries, with a route to follow around Wivenhoe. The Sentinel Gallery and Over The Sofa Gallery at the Wivenhoe Bookshop boast a direct lineage from this annual and much anticipated, seasonal tradition.
