This week's weather has been decent. Long may it continue! For those of us of a certain age it may well remind us of that glorious long hot summer of 1976. I've penned a few verses to reflect that particular time. It's simply entitled ........ 'Remember the scorcher? AD 1976'

It was 50 years ago today
That the solar God's had their way
Three consecitive months of undiluted sun
'Fancy a cold beverage anyone?'

Sc****ly clad females everywhere
Both genders letting down their hair
Ice cream sales going through the roof
Weather to bring out even the aloof

As we drove from hither to thither
The tarmacced roads began to wither
Motorways jammed as we headed for the coast
Of this weather, we made the most

Cumbria lakes, their levels receded
At a time when more water was needed!
Outdoor lidos packed to the hilt
As the nation's population began to wilt

We grooved along to the sounds of ABBA and Queen
And rocked to songs by Wings and Led Zeppelin
Our cricketers were crushed by the West Indies
As they calypsoed with consummate ease!

Of course, this hot spell eventually finished
As the sky, with clouds, was replenished
Wall to wall sunshine no longer the norm
Cast away by that late August thunderstorm
