I love this piece, a really clever arrangement of moving light tubes that create a kaleidoscope effect from either end, one that really requires patience to get the right angles and light effect, especially if you can frame a viewer standing at the opposite end of the piece.

Delighted to photograph this brand-new installation by Amigo & Amigo for Liverpool’s River of Light! ✨
It looks stunning on the waterfront — a playful mix of interactive pendulums, light bars and glowing spheres that send waves of colour dancing back and forth across the piece as people swing the pendulums at each end.

I love the symmetry, the abstract lines and the movement in this piece, definitely my favourite of the 2025 collection.

🌊🏰 Two very different workshops in one week – from battling the tide at West Kirby to chasing sunset light around Castell Dinas Brân.

At West Kirby we explored long exposure photography in wild, windy conditions, learning how to use filters and shutter speeds while planning around the tide. Later in the week, we swapped sea spray for castle ruins, climbing high above Llangollen to capture a fiery sunset over the valley.

Both sessions were challenging, inspiring and a reminder of why I love running photography walks and workshops – every outing is unique.

📸 I’ve written up the full story with tips you can use in your own photography – read more here 👉

🏰 Sunset at Castell Dinas Brân 🌄

Last month, I hiked up to Castell Dinas Brân in Llangollen and was completely blown away by this incredible location. Perched high above the valley, the ruins catch the last light of the day in a way that feels almost magical—especially as the sun dips behind the hills, bathing everything in a golden glow.

I loved it so much that I’ve added a photowalk here on 13th September! We’ll make the climb up to the castle in the evening, positioning ourselves to capture the ruins perfectly aligned with the setting sun. Whether you’re a beginner with a camera phone or an experienced photographer looking for a fresh perspective, this walk will be all about finding great compositions in a stunning landscape.

📍 What to know:

This is a gratuity-based workshop—no upfront fee, just pay what you feel at the end.
The climb is moderate but uneven, so sturdy footwear is essential.
Expect a relaxed, friendly atmosphere—perfect for learning and experimenting with your shots!
If you fancy joining me for this golden hour adventure, let me know in the comments or drop me a message! Would love to share this spot with more photographers.

It was a great experience shooting the artworks for Amigo and Amigo last autumn and I can't wait for the return of the River of Light this autumn where I'll be once again running photowalks throughout the event!

Exploring Rivington’s Hidden Gems

Yesterday afternoon, I had the chance to explore Lord Leverhulme’s countryside retreat at Rivington, including this impressive seven-arched bridge. It’s fascinating to compare these extravagant grounds to his home at Thornton Hough and the factory village at Port Sunlight, both just around the corner from where I live.

The blend of history, architecture, and nature here is inspiring—and it’s got me thinking... could this be a future photowalk location? Let me know in the comments if this spot is one you’d love to explore with your camera!

"All good thing"

Well when we set off for last nights sunset walk to Hilbre Island I can certainly say that although I *hoped* the sun might show, I didn't expect this!

We had a great evening walking out across the sands, and just after visiting the old lifeboat station and deciding it was best to head back the sun suddenly decided to put on one of the most spectacular shows of the year!

Queue lots of photographers scrabbling around to find an interesting foreground!

I had spotted this old piece of rusted iron with an old bolt hole i used to create this mystical looking porthole effect I was really pleased with, but it was still lacking a foreground.

So with my camera set to video so I could check how it looked I jumped down, used my shadow on the lense to line myself up then took the shot.

It just goes to show you never really know what the sun is going to do, however bleak it may look when you set off.

I'm back out at Hilbre for another sunset walk on Monday and I have walks out here across the summer so why not join me? You can find all the details on my website or send me a dm!
