This summer, every Year 8 student across Merton state schools will receive their own copy of Lord of the Flies: The Graphic Novel, illustrated by Aimée de Jongh, with a personal introduction from our first ever Schools Laureate, Nathanael Lessore.

A book to read over the holidays, and a conversation to have in September.

The Big Read for Schools builds on four years of the Merton Big Read, and this year, during the National Year of Reading, we’re taking it into classrooms for the first time.

Fewer than one in five children read daily, and in Merton, 35% of students don’t have books at home. The Big Read For Schools puts 1,800 books into 1,800 hands.
