Oh dear Whitby what's with all this rain?

Never fear though though Witchmarkets is here at Whitby Pavilion.

2 floors of Alternative, Gothic and Witchy traders in a fabulous location overlooking the sea, right on the cliff edge.

There's a cafΔ— onsite to get hot food, drinks and snacks.

Spend a few hours, meeting the lovely traders, artists and authors, enjoy a Tarot reading, massage or join in some drumming.

It's all free, and dog-friendly too.

Plus The Gothic Gathering 's very own studio photographer The Artistic Lens - Photography by Paul Armstrong has his studio set up to take your stunning portraits.

The curtain has risen on a gothic opera: tales of shadow, drama and the dark beauty of Goth weeks, revealed in the captivating oil paintings of Douglas Hill as part of his 'Celebration of Whitby' exhibition of paintings.

Drop in for a few minutes for a bite-size view, or come and immerse yourself in Whitby through an artist's eyes and linger in this unusual and atmospheric Victorian church in the centre of town.

You're already here, walking the cobblestones and breathing in the evocative atmosphere that only Goth Weekend creates.

But have you ever seen it the way a painter sees it?

Come and immerse yourself in the work of Douglas Hill, an artist captivated by the many facets of Whitby life, including the mystique and magnificence of Goth Weekends.

'Act 1, Gothic Opera' (19" x 21") is a striking example: an expressive oil painting with exaggerated lighting effects that create a staging of movement and tension. A Gothic Opera is in progress.

Only four days until the Exhibition opens on Saturday 26th April - don't miss the chance to see Whitby's rich and varied character through an artist's eyes, and linger in the beautiful surroundings of historic St John's Church on Baxtergate.

Among the exhibits is Kite Flying (24" x 30"). Douglas loves painting on the beach. He set up for this spontaneous picture to capture the genial feeling of an August day with a slight breeze. Boats are coming and going, children are playing, and along comes a woman with a kite, a perfect finishing touch.
