A Crafty Needle

A Crafty Needle We are a mother and daughter team who had the dream of building a traditional knitting and haberdash So that's us. Irene, Suzy & Max the Yorkie

We established A Crafty Needle in 2008 after my Mum (Irene) decided she would make her dream of owning a knitting shop come true and when I (Suzy) got bored of working in an office. So with the aim of building a traditional haberdashers, just like the ones we used to spend our Saturday mornings in, A Crafty Needle was born. Armed with a basic knowledge of knitting and cross stitching between us (a

nd even less knowledge of running a shop) we've grown into that traditional haberdashers where you can get your next knitting or stitching project or just a button. Our shop may be small, but, as we are sure our customers will agree, it is packed to the rafters with goodies ready to tempt you. We'll keep you updated with the latest news and products from A Crafty Needle on our page and hope to see you soon.

So this is a little scary!

I’ve spent 3 days (with the help of technical support!) transforming our website so we can now sell online.

We’ve said for a long time that we wouldn’t sell online as yarn is tactile - you can’t gauge the true colour or feel with a picture on a screen - but in these times of dwindling footfall to our shop, needs must!

We’ve started small, with a few ranges from each of our suppliers to test the waters. If it is successful, we will add more ranges.

Please do share. Even if you don’t knit or crochet, someone you know may!

Thank you to all our customers for your continued support and hopefully to many new customers around the country who buy from our little shoppe online!

Social media department is back from holiday (it’s me…Suzy…I’m the social media department!) and I have a question for people in my phone about my holiday knitting…

Do I start the colour repeat from red or do I work backwards starting with purple?

Please, please don’t listen to any rumour you may hear that we are closing down. We are trying our best to remain a fixture on our High Street as we have been for the last 18 years.

Footfall has been very low for the last couple of weeks and we really hope that this rumour is not the cause!

We are a family business (with no more family holidays planned!) and so there may be occasions when we have to shut early for a school run or for a day if a family emergency or close for 5 minutes while we grab lunch but if we ever (hopefully not in the near future!) have to close we will let our customers know.

Thank you to everyone who continues to support our small business.
