The title comes from a longer piece of writing, which was extracted from its original context and sent out as a proposition. With no further guidance or direction, artists responded with works that bridge the ephemeral and material, finding their own meeting points and refractions on the theme. Our Story

PRESS The Art Newspaper a-n news the icing room is an artist-led space born from an autocorrect error. What started as a living room gallery showing work in progress has developed into a space that holds exhibitions, hosts events and produces publications; the icing room is home to a collective who work across visual media, who share a commitment to original and experimental practice, and a belief in non-exclusivity of art spaces. It was set up in May 2015 in response to the difficulty in finding places to exhibit and make work, as well as an interest in non-whitebox situations. Enacting poetic, surreal and playful interruptions of the everyday, we look at how conversations around art change according to the modes of circulation, and explore ways to subvert this. the icing room is always open.
