We’re so excited to announce our first artist for our after party next Tuesday: 🥁

Priyanka Moorjani has been part of London’s spoken word scene for over seven years, and has performed at events and festivals all across the UK, putting authenticity, vulnerability, and most importantly, good vibes, at the heart of all of their performances. Hey, this is the hen-nah party’s new curator, Cia! 👋🏽

Watch this space to find out about the first hen-nah party of 2025 - we’ll be continuing the night’s legacy of chaat, chat, and sensational live performances, and more 🤩🤩

I’ve long admired the vibrancy and warmth of previous hen-nah parties - hats off to Amani and the rest of the team for all their hard work. They’ve introduced me to so many brilliant performers and artists in our community. From now on I’ll be curating future THP lineups: what a dream!

Previously, I’ve performed on the hen-nah party stage as an open micer (see photographic evidence from ). I’ve also hosted poetry nights & zine workshops for the diaspora, including events at Tate at the National Poetry Library, with .

I can’t wait to welcome old friends and new across poetry, music and dance to the Rich Mix stage…

🧿❤️

Hi, it’s Amani! This is a personal post as I leave London for the foreseeable future and hand over the reins of the hen-nah party to the wonderful

Being very honest, I wasn’t sure what to do with the night as I prepared to leave. Then Cia reached out to ask what the plan for the future was - and to offer their hand. I’m really grateful they did, because community spaces shouldn’t disappear just because the founder decides they’re done.

Some history 👩🏽‍🏫: I founded the hen-nah party six years ago at There were a lot of good, thoughtful, responsible etc reasons for starting it, but it’s also as simple as this: I wanted more q***r people of colour in my life, and I fu***ng love hosting a party.

This being said, running the night was not always easy. Q***r South Asian audiences have complex needs - we’re talking the historical legacies of partition, imperialism, sectarianism, generational trauma, internalised racism and homophobia - and on top of that, we all seem to be dating/have dated each other!! Building a space where we can coexist as bravely and as relatively safely as possible is a tall order.

So I’m deeply, deeply grateful that the community built space for me to attempt this. Personally, I’ve learned a hell of a lot through curating, hosting, and (trying to) lead a team. And I have made so many missteps and mistakes in each of these arenas. My team and wider community gave me the grace, the room, the guidance, the trust, and the friendship to make those mistakes right, and keep moving. Thank you for the chances you have given me to change and try again. It has been humbling and mortifying and transformative and above all, kind.

It’s in this spirit that I hope the night continues - one where we have the space to create newness, to make mistakes safely, and to experience growth. I’m really excited to see where Cia takes us 🌈

And who knows…perhaps the hen-nah party will start to pop up in other places around the world. Because if there’s one thing running this night has taught me, it’s that together, our imagination, our potential, is limitless ♥️

With love, with care,
Amani
