Eight pubs in the Yorkshire Dales where the food is worth the drive, and so is the view.

Tan Hill Inn at 1,732 feet. The Sportsman's Arms serves trout from the River Nidd, a mile away. The Angel at Hetton has held a Michelin star since 2019. And The Craven Arms in Appletreewick, gas-lit and timbered since 1548, looking directly up at Simon's Seat from the beer garden.

Yorkshire has been doubling as everywhere else for decades.

Wartime Birmingham in the new Peaky Blinders film. The wild Yorkshire moors in the Margot Robbie Wuthering Heights. A 1930s Dales market town in All Creatures Great and Small.

Most of the locations are free to visit; a few are worth the train fare, and one is a steam railway that has appeared in more major productions than almost anywhere else in Britain.
