I've just found an old advert for a joint venture between Brunel University and Uxbridge Technical College for the Climax Chicago band to play at the college on 27th May 1972. Has anyone heard of this band or saw them at this gig?

53 years ago on this date, 15th February John Mayall played at Brunel. A musical career spanning over 60 years as a blues singer, guitarist, organist and songwriter he was the founder of John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers, a band which has counted among its members some of the most famous blues and blues rock musicians such as Eric Clapton, Peter Green and John McVie to name but a few.

Black Cat Bones supported Mayall at this gig, they were a British heavy blues rock band formed in London 1966.

The band is perhaps best known for having had English musicians Paul Kossoff and Simon Kirke in its line-up, both of whom later helped form Free in 1968 with Paul Rodgers and Andy Fraser. Kirke and Rodgers later helped found the more successful British rock supergroup Bad Company in 1974.

52 years ago on 6th Feb 1970 Brunel University Students' Union organised another 'rave' at the Lyceum.. The ad mentions the Small Faces playing. As I understand at the end of 1969 Steve Marriott left the band, Ronnie Wood and Rod Stewart who had previously been in the Jeff Beck Group joined the remaining band members and renamed the band the Faces. The advert may have been placed several weeks earlier before the the departure of Marriott hence the incorrect info.....unless....the Small Faces still had a legal obligation to play but with Wood and Stewart stepping in to help before renaming the band?
