COLOURS - Sicily is such an inspiring colour palette. I’m collecting these little swatches every day , chalky walls, faded ceramics, dusty pinks and blues, some kind of odd brown… and, of course, a rust-gold balcony thrown in.

I’m fascinated by the combinations that just seem to happen here. Colours I’m not sure I’d ever think to put together.

It’s going to be interesting to start mixing them into paint and seeing where they take me.

I’ve been here a week today, surrounded by half-finished, half-started things, scraps of ideas, drawings and colour notes.

Having a fun day off tomorrow… then eekkk — time to actually start something! 🎨

DAY 4 - Back to the business of business. Life has to go on whilst we are away, I sent out a newsletter last night to my subscribers, a story about my Moons! If you would like to read it, DM me and I will forward it. It might give you a taste of my news letter, and encourage you to sign up ❤️ It does give you a 15 % off code too, so ‘a read and a deal’ … whilst I’m away painting ❤️ HAPPY SUNDAY

DAY 2 - I really think I’m learning… tomorrow I might feel differently. This is my third retreat, I don’t feel so intimidated by the time I have and the time I don’t have. No big plans, just some tricks to get started. Covering pages in colour and textures so don’t feel daunted by the blank white pages of my sketch book. Telling myself I don’t need to get anything finished by the end of the day, end of the week. I have five cats sitting around me, watching what I’m doing, I’m not even trying to impress them! Today I feel content. I had a wonderful mentoring session before I came away. We talked about writing more, so I’m documenting my days, for me and you if you are interested, and some making notes of other ideas that I’m hoping are the stepping stones for future work. I’m unraveling my self from the job of being a designer to the life of being an artist.

NOTES FROM THE BATH 1 - Here in my little Sicilian hideaway we don’t have anything fancy, there is however a lovely old tub in the garden! To me being able to sit in a bath looking over the valley, is possibly the fanciest thing in the world! I often dream of water, and have my best ideas when I’m swimming up and down the pool at home. So here I start each day, work out what I’m going to do, try to illiminate procrastination 🤪 and start the day… and it’s flipping hot here so needs must! 🔥❤️

BLANKET - Takes its name from a traditional weaving term. A weaver’s blanket is a single length of cloth used to test ideas — different warp and weft colours, weave structures, thread counts and pattern combinations — before committing to the final cloth.

I trained as a weaver and dyer, and I’ve always loved these experimental textiles: one piece of fabric containing a whole sequence of possibilities. This kaftan grew from that same idea, bringing different colours and patterns together across one continuous design.

Up on my website now in three different fabric types, this one is silk georgette.

EXCING DAY - Having time to play is getting more and more important to me, reminded today after a lovely studio visit from L A R A B O W E N we discussed this and rest and space. I’m off to Sicily again to carry on with my ‘playing and practicing’ feeling so excited about just practising. It all happens one way or another so why not try and make it funner! ( obvs there are so many days of frustration 🤪) but today I’m pleased with not finishing anything 🔴

KAFTANS: THESE ARE GOING DOWN SO WELL! One size, 140 cm long, three fabric choices ❤️

A Canvas of Elegance.
There’s something timeless about a kaftan. Effortlessly elegant, flowing, and light, it celebrates the beauty of movement and simplicity. I create my kaftans using the full width of fabric—nothing cut away, nothing wasted. Every inch is honoured, every thread part of the design.

This approach is both intentional and sustainable. It reflects a philosophy of respecting materials and embracing form without forcing it. The result? Garments that drape beautifully, breathe easily, and feel as good to wear as they are to look at hanging on your wall!
