It's not too late to join me for a day in the studio this coming Sunday! Fancy learning to weave on a loom, threaded up and ready to go? You'll be delighted with what you'll cover in the day, and you'll go home with a comprehensive sampler and/or a piece of cloth to hang on the wall or to sew into something to treasure.

*Makers Sale Alert* ‼️ Makers Guild Wales Starting Sat 24th Jan - Feb 1st, 10am - 5pm every day.

The annual Makers Fair sale opens at the Makers Guild Wales gallery in Cradiff Bay (Craft in the Bay) this Saturday. Once again, I've contributed a few older pieces of work at greatly reduced prices, as I need to free up some space in the studio!

Last year sales were very buoyant, with customers queuing outside before the gallery opened on the first day! So if you want your pick of the bunch, get there sooner rather than later!

Wishing you all a very Happy Christmas!

Thank you to every one of you for your support, messages and interest in my work over this last year.... it really does mean the world to me.

After a tricky 18 months of health challenges, it's been great to edge back to work over these last few months. There's much to look forward to in 2026.... a large public art project, exhibitions and events. There's new weave workshops scheduled at the studio (link in bio) and I'm also planning to get some Open Studio dates in the diary, so keep a look out for those. Hopefully, this all means that I'll see lots more of you in real life in 2026!

But for now, it's time to switch off a little and enjoy some festive family time. Love and best wishes to you all xx

Has a brilliant day yesterday with the Fashion and Costume students from Bridgend College. They worked their socks off weaving for the first time on prepared table looms exploring colour, texture, structure and yarn. I was so impressed by their curiosity, sparky-ness, work ethic and creativity. Some super colour and texture samples woven. I look forward to seeing how they take their learning forwards into their current studio project. Well done everyone! 🤩

Final reminder! Use code NOV30 to save 30%!

A lovely way to re-fire your creativity this autumn, my self-paced 'Design for Weave' online workshop takes you through the design process before you get to the loom. Learn about writing a personal brief, understanding the design process, creating mood boards, exploring colour, texture and pattern before moving into some exemplars of translating design ideas into woven structures. There are lots of inspiring videos and downloadable PDF’s to support your learning, as well as a course discussion facility to ask me any questions. I put a huge amount of time and thought into designing and filming in this course which takes you through exactly how I go about developing designs to weave, and its been amazing to hear about all the design breakthroughs my learners have had from following the process.

More details can be found on my website - https://www.laurathomas.co.uk/designforweave Save 30% at checkout when you use the code NOV30, before the end of this month. When purchasing, there is also the option to 'buy as a gift' so it can be sent to a lucky recipient.

Huge thanks to the Handweavers Guild of America - HGA for the invitation to talk today, as part of their 'Textiles & Tea' series. A truly wonderful conversation, with lots of insightful questions - I enjoyed it so much! The recording will be available on their YouTube channel very soon if you'd like to catch up with it.

Grateful thanks to for their sponsorship.

From the archive.... 'Trinity Weave' 2018.
A handwoven triaxial structure, in cotton, linen and silk.
A special commission for the UWTSD Carmarthen Campus library.

This commission was an EPIC undertaking..... I don't remember how long it took me to weave, but it was weeks and weeks of work. I wove hundreds of metres of narrow-width strips, which were then rewoven into the triaxial structure. The finished piece is
130x150cm.

It remains a favourite piece of work as I love the depth of interest from a distance, as well as up close. Each strip was designed with a warp of graduating tones to echo the painted design work. For me, there is a perfect balance between the repeat pattern of the pink strips and the irregularity of the darker greens and aubergine-greys.

Hopefully, there may be more of this type of work in the not-too-distant future.
