For over three decades, Meekyoung Shin has explored themes of transformation, replication, and cultural translation through sculptures made from soap.
'Korean Classic: In Use' places soap sculptures inspired by forms familiar to generations of Korean art students within everyday public spaces across London. Rather than remaining fixed artworks, the sculptures gradually change through touch, use, and time, challenging conventional ideas of permanence, preservation, and value.
The works will later be presented at the in September 2026, exploring what escapes the museum's systems of preservation, recording, archiving, and classification. Carrying the traces accumulated through everyday encounters at each site, the sculptures return not as fixed objects, but as records of use, change, and lived experience.
The project is presented across several locations in London, including the Korean Cultural Centre UK, SOAS University of London, Delfina Foundation, Café Babka, Gaia Food & Drinks, and SOOM Restaurant.
