It's so good when you have a job that you thoroughly enjoy doing! Last night I did Mikey's 60th birthday party in Livingston at the Mercure Hotel and what a night it was!
Everybody was dressed up in a fancy dress and it was an 80s themed evening. It had a really nice friendly atmosphere and right at the very start I knew this was gonna be a good night and it certainly was! I think that Mikey's entrance last night dressed up as one of the Ghostbusters and arriving in the Ghostbusters car was outstanding and obviously I played the Ghostbusters theme when he walked into the Function room! I've always said that Good parties are due to good people! My job as djay is to facilitate that by playing requests and good tunes that will get people dancing and by having a laugh and a carry on with some of the Key guests! This is exactly what I did last night and I was rewarded with an amazing atmosphere and lots of people having a really good time!
I provided some Confetti Cannon's last night and we used them quite literally all night I was forever picking up Confetti and putting it back in the Cannons and firing it again and it just looked spectacular!
I had loads of requests and a really good playlist that Mikey sent me which had everything from GBX to all the 70s and 80s Dance Floor Classics! I think as a DJ you can generally tell how a night will go by the playlist that you are given and when I saw this playlist there wasn't a song on it that I wouldn't have played!
It's nice to be given the trust to deliver an amazing night. It was certainly a very long and hard day for me yesterday it took me three hours to single-handedly remove the Dance Floor, 24 wireless mood lights, my full Disco, a Photobooth and two Giant numbers! The last hour was spent cleaning up all the Confetti with our garden vac which is the perfect thing for doing it as it sucks and blows so you can blow all the Confetti into a corner and then suck it up!
I will put some of the videos from last night in the comments below!
This morning I quite literally ache from head to toe but I have a big smile on my face remembering this awesome night!
1.5 tons of equipment loaded into my van! I left the venue at 3.45am, luckily I only had to drive 15 mins to Bathgate and home and bed!
This is the unseen side of what us DJs do! I started work at 9am, loaded vans, did deliveries, set up this gig, did the gig and then took it all away!
Total non stop hours 19!
I bought myself a Hume band to monitor my health. My stress went through the roof during setup as we had so much to set up and not a lot of time to do it! But it was all done on time!
My step count for the gig was over 30,000!
