I have been busy the last week with the exhibition ( which has incidentally been marvellous, and if you have visited, thank you! 🙏).

Today I had some time at home to paint and finish my little sunflowers painting, the 3rd in this little group.

I painted this little trio of smalls after enjoying the recent allotment painting I did. I have been focusing on tree themed paintings of late but I do love gardens and flowers! I also have really confirmed to myself how much I like painting on wood panels!

We are very much open at the Gardens Gallery and have enjoyed meeting some lovely visitors this morning here in Cheltenham. We’ve had so many really enjoyable conversations!

Since the downpour first thing the weather has improved and I have to say our handiwork is looking vibrant as ever!

We are open today till 5, Sunday and Bank Holiday Monday 10-5 and Tuesday morning. Do pop in and take a look.

Today’s location for the Cotswolds paint out week was the stunning Ruskin Mill Trust , one of my all time favourite ever places to paint and sketch.
Unfortunately I’d not long arrived and was walking along the path, laden with box easel, rucksack, and bag of meal deal, when I went flying, basically landing on my face.
I will spare you the pics of that!

Chris James Mel Cooper-Powell and Jan emerged from various easels hidden in the greenery when they heard my yell and the crash of me and my accoutrements , and they were incredibly kind.
It was painful and I was rather shaken, and definitely not fit to get back in the car and drive back home. With some first aid ( thank you Ruskin Mill Cafe ) and Mel being an absolute angel taking me to the cafe for a cup of tea, abandoning her own easel for some time, I managed to gather myself back together!

I did paint, not quite as I’d have intended, but I persevered. Please swipe and you’ll see some of the beautiful plants, and planting combinations. The garden was fabulous 👏

Today as part of our Cotswold paint out week we were in Minchinhampton.
I was envisaging using buttery yellows and stone colours for the gorgeous village buildings but my senses led me to the allotments ( oh, green/plants/flowers, that’s a surprise !).
At the allotments I found colour, texture, structure and so many potential paintings!
The large beast of a nodding sunflower ( that had been given supports to stop him falling over!) actually captured my heart.
Pleased with this one. Don’t often say that!

Also another lovely lunchtime break and chit chat 🙂

Try and pop in if you can - I have seen some lovely work handed in by people. I am lucky enough to have inspired an artist with my painting that has been in Clementine café!

We received so many wonderfully diverse and impressive submissions for our Art Competition - which is now CLOSED for entries.

Huge congratulations to all those who have been shortlisted 🥳 👏 They will see their work exhibited alongside the Gloucester Contemporary Artists painting which inspired them at the Gate, open to the public from 24-30th August. The prize giving will take place on Sunday 23rd August 🏆

I had a very absorbing time painting out today at Stratford Park, down by the lake. Such a choice of views but I settled on this one looking across the water and up to the trees going up the slope.
So many greens, so much variety of tree shapes, growing habits and leaves!
I have left it untweaked because it feels ok!
Thanks to Chris James for organising his Cotswolds paint out week again this year!

After a lunch break I popped in to view the Stroud Artists Cooperative Park Life exhibition, in the gallery at Museum in the Park - on till the end of August- thoroughly recommend if you get the opportunity!

I am delighted to be part of this upcoming exhibition at Gardens Gallery Cheltenham in the last week of August, wrapping up on Tuesday 1st September!

There will be a gorgeous range of paintings and ceramics to enjoy, and beautiful cards. For my part I’ll be showing a collection of my tree themed works for their first time, as well as some florals and en plein air pieces.

Here’s my painting from today’s glosaitc ‘Art in the City’ plein air painting competition.

This is the view of Greek On The Docks with the Lock Warehouse opposite and a glimpse of the chimney pots of the lock keepers house in the distance in the gap between. I like the story it tells of the docks from the past, through to today. I really, really liked the parasols!

I had a great time ( carefully selected a painting spot in the shade this time round!) and it was fun to have Rebecca and the boys there with their family art packs doing some lovely drawings (and being my very sweet morale boosting cheerleaders!).

The winning painting from was really special, Rebecca and I both really loved it. Take a look at his Instagram to see it! There were many other beautiful works too. I love the fact that we all come together and appreciate the character of our historic city!

Thank you Russell Haines Lisa Turner for organising the event again - I am certain everyone who participated had a brilliant time!
