I had a short trip to WWT Slimbridge today, spur of the moment. I hadn’t been since the end of March as I have had a busy few weeks, but I really was missing the place.
There were so many beautiful birds, and their young, and the plants at the moment are just gorgeous. Yes, I go there for the plants and waterscapes….
There are swathes of oxeye daisies, cow parsley and many more meadow and wetland plants. I was in awe of the new planting alongside the restaurant which was absolutely stunning with height, structure, layers of plant and leaf shapes, and blues and soft mauves, and I want to go back soon to sketch it!
I did enjoy sketching in the South Lake Discovery Hide - mesmerising and calming as always with the sounds of the bird calls, the shimmering water , gulls swooping, ducks dipping and quite a few avocets.
