As with most restoration projects, real life elbows its way into the mix and fiddles with the schedule! …But, taking a bit of a break over the last few months to relax and enjoy this VERY special family time has been truly wonderful. I love my wife and i love our children, and had i sacrificed this time to gain a couple of nails in a plank, i know we would all regret it in the future.

The project will be however returning to “progress” status shortly … as the bairns will need their ship before Uni!!🤣

To all you magnificent supporters and followers of the channel, i thank you so much for your patience!

Managed to get the full clan out today! Couldnt have been better weather, nice steady 10/15kt wind sun and calm seas!
Particular kudos go to the BEST DOLOHON SHOW EVER, for holding onto the wee man and sorting Bea out with a infinity scarf😎😎

Hey, Im Nick

And i am fulfilling my promise (slowly) to return my 82year old, long keel classic sailing yacht to the big wobbly salty wet stuff.
Im a husband, and father to a young family working my way through the project. Im almost entirely self taught both as a sailor and wood worker.

The Reviving an Idler project is largely a dairy for my on posterity but also a lessons learned / how to to help and inspire like minded folks like you to save these old boats x

Aunt Agatha floats again, shes a cracking little sail and rowing dinghy- particularly when Sculling. But she is also an incredibly stable platform for a tender dinghy and all in a neet little 7’.9” package. Youve done .oughtred proud!

Getting the steamer going at 5.30 for a 9 appointment with Mark. Gonna get a couple of errors ironed out.

The floors in-there to be faired and the two newest sawn frames to be faired and floor template taken.

Its has been a BUSY BUSY month and all three boats 🤣🤣🥴 and with our newest arrival 🥰👶 but we are getting close to refocusing sole attention to Idler 🙌🙌🙌

Getting back to the sawn frames !!

The oak blacks were cut to approximate size last winter and stored (oiled) under the boat next to the ground to dry slowly and acclimatise to the hull moisture levels.

There absolutely no checking or deformation and once these go into the boat they shouldn’t loose or take on much moisture 😎😎😎 …
