DUADS is pleased to announce the official line-up for AudioFest 2022! Performances will take place in the Bailey Room, St John’s College.

AudioFest Night One (Thursday 16th) - the Troupe (Part 1) and Honey? Darling!

On the first night, The Troupe performs their first three audio dramas:
“Cylinder Six”: a tour of a futuristic, ocean-swept industrial center.
“The Trial of Charles Stewart”: In 1649, King Charles I of England is put on trial. The sentence: Death.
“Meteor Showers”: found footage recordings document an unexpected meeting between a mega-corporation employee and a lonely signal keeper, far in the future.

Then, we will perform the 1950s rom-com "Honey? Darling!", which features only one actor and one foley artist trying to portray a nuclear family's identity crisis.

TW // Character death // shouting at children // loud noises // flashing lights

AudioFest Night Two (Friday 17th) - Jill Pidgeon

In this shameless Pirates of the Caribbean rip-off, watch Jill Pidgeon save her skin and her crew, despite being the worst pirate no one's ever heard of.

In the season finale of a show that doesn't exist, Jill Pidgeon is the worst pirate you’ve never heard of. Several months after Jill walked the plank (and survived), she encounters a washed-up old rival, Harry, who bears terrifying news of their old crewmates. Now Jill and Harry must set off on a quest to rescue their former captain Andrea from a spectre from the past.

AudioFest Night Three (Saturday 18th) - the Troupe (part 2), Red vs Blue

Journey across the world with the final three Troupe audio dramas. Then kick back to a goofy Three Musketeers bonus episode, Red vs. Blue!

The Troupe performs their second set of plays, which include:
“Wanderings”: in the north of England, two siblings fall prey to the temptations of the fae.
“Interview with a Selkie”: A selkie is invited to give an interview.
“The Wrecked Cigarette” A student in Thailand encounters an old man whose story he cannot ignore.

Then, have a listen to the bonus episode of The Three Musketeers, where our main characters, Athos, Porthos, Aramis and D'Artagnan take a break and let their minions do all the work.

Honey? Darling!: A short 1950s rom-com about a nuclear-family undergoing an identity crisis. LOOKING FOR: FOLEY ARTIST, SOUND OPERATOR, LIGHTING DESIGNER/OPERATOR

Jill Pidgeon: A Pirates of the Carribbean rip-off. That’s all it is. LOOKING FOR: SOUND OPERATOR, LIGHTING DESIGNER/OPERATOR

CALL FOR AUDIOFEST PROD TEAMS!

DUADS is looking for prod teams to help us bring our performances planned for AudioFest to life! (Taking place on the 16th-18th June)

TROUPE DIRECTOR

DUADS is currently looking for a director and assistant director to bring six short audio dramas to the live stage for AUDIOFEST: Durham’s first audio drama and voice acting festival.

We are looking for directors with enthusiasm and passion not only for audio storytelling, but also emphasis on teamwork, group morale and inclusive casting.

The directors will be in charge of a troupe of 10-12 actors to bring the following shows to life:

Thomas Kavanagh’s “Cylinder Six”: a tour of a futuristic, ocean-swept industrial center.
Emily Tarbuck’s “Wanderings”: in the north of England, two siblings fall prey to the temptations of the fae.
Carrie Cheung’s “Meteor Showers”: found footage recordings document an unexpected meeting between a mega-corporation employee and a lonely signal keeper, far in the future.
Molly Knox’s “Interview with a Selkie”: A selkie is invited to give an interview.
Peter Firbank’s “The Trial of Charles Stewart”: In 1649, King Charles I of England is put on trial. The sentence: Death.
Rian Mullan’s “The Wrecked Cigarette”: A student in Thailand encounters an old man whose story he cannot ignore.

TROUPE PRODUCER

DUADS is currently looking for producers and assistant producers for six short audio dramas to be performed troupe-style. We’re looking for folks with enthusiasm, love of teamwork, inclusivity and group spirit.

The heart and soul of a prod team, producers will work closely with the directors to make rehearsal, logistics, promotion and performance of these audio dramas run as smoothly as possible. Duties may include: setting up a rehearsal schedule, liaising between cast and prod team (Directors, Foley Artists, Composers) and the festival manager! Producers are also major players in organizing socials and making stash.

COMPOSER: THE TRIAL OF CHARLES STUART

DUADS is currently looking for enthusiastic composers for our production of Peter Firbank’s “The Trial of Charles Stewart”, an elegant and stately retelling of the trial of King Charles I which ultimately led to his ex*****on.

COMPOSER: WANDERINGS

DUADS is currently looking for enthusiastic composers for our production of Emily Tarbuck’s “Wanderings”, an eerie tale of two siblings who fall prey to the temptations of the supernatural.

JILL PIDGEON: DIRECTOR

A self-described “shameless Pirates of the Caribbean rip-off”, “The Magnificent Voyages of Jill Pidgeon” is an audio drama about Jill Pidgeon, the worst pirate you’ve never heard of, and a crew of women (all disguised as men) facing death and danger on the high seas. This adventure picks up several months after Jill has walked the plank. She encounters a washed-up old rival who bears terrifying news. Now the two must set off on a quest to rescue their former captain Andrea, from a spectre from the past.

DUADS is currently looking for a director and an assistant director who fall under the transgender umbrella to bring this exciting tale of piracy and defiance to life at AudioFest. At DUADS, we really value enthusiasm and passion not only for audio storytelling, but also emphasis on teamwork, group morale and especially, inclusive casting.

HONEY? DARLING! DIRECTOR

DUADS is currently looking for a director for this audio drama (with a difference… although you’ll have to wait to find out exactly what that is!)

In this comedy romp set in 1950s America, a nuclear family of three undergoes a small crisis of love and identity over an old cigarette case.

FOLEY ARTISTS / SOUND OPERATORS

DUADS is currently looking for foley artists and sound operators for our live audio drama productions.

Part of the team from day one, these crucial prod team members are in charge of procuring sound effects for the shows and running them during the performances in time to the drama.

HONEY? DARLING! FOLEY ARTIST

For this audio drama we’re looking for someone who’s up for a challenge and a lot of fun at the same time! We aim for the foley to be done LIVE, with an emphasis on comical delivery. Rehearsals will be done alongside the rest of the cast. This opportunity is ideal for actors wanting to try something new!

If you are interested in any of these roles, please email [email protected] by midnight on Friday 6th May, stating why you would like the role and any relevant experience you may have. You will then be contacted about an interview.
