It’s sad to lose today, yet there is also joy in all the amazing work he left with us. Great artists can change the way we see and experience the world, help us to look at it and to live differently. Hockney certainly did this all the way to the end. His Year In Normandy was an exceptional use of the enforced restrictions of lockdown, which he took as an opportunity to produce an extraordinary series of works created through the seasons and through different times of day and night. His painting, which can be seen at , captures the beauty of one of the spines of Los Angeles, and has been probably our most popular Hockney poster with our team and our customers in recent years. It’s also poignant that the painting captures a scene that no longer exists, even as the view is slowly restored after the devastating fires in Los Angeles. He loved LA almost as much as he loved his native Yorkshire, so much so that he physically painted the inside of his own swimming pool, as well as that of the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel. David was busy right to the end - the remarkable show we attended at the last year has been followed by many more, most recently the current show at the in Hyde Park. David will be missed, but his art will continue to illuminate our lives for years to come. Thank you, David!

Featured artist Sue Ribbans will present her work with Linocut plates and prints: “Sue is a painter/ printmaker/ sculptor with work ranging through prints of fat ladies, figurative painting and abstract works using mixed media. She tends to get obsessive about a particular subject before moving on to explore her constant source of creative ideas.

Sue left art school in 1963 and spent most of her life as a graphic designer. In 1989 the purchase of a Columbian Printing press led her back to printmaking, which had been part of her college syllabus. Sue is an original member of Richmond Printmakers and has exhibited widely with them. She is a member of the on Gabriel’s Wharf and has had work exhibited by the Royal Society of Watercolour at the Bankside Gallery.”

Featured artist LoraineMonk will present her Linocut approach: “Loraine’s visual arts practice derives from a sense of place and community.  She creates images using both relief and etching processes. 

Loraine’s family were working-class Londoners. Inspired by local and community history, her background has influenced her politics, academic research and artistic practice. Previously exploring the inequality of power relations and occluded histories of certain people, places and ideas, she has recently worked on a series relating to climate change and animal extinction. She continues her exploration of the human face. Drawing is at the heart of her work whether it is metal etching on zinc and copper, monoprinting, lino and wood cutting or wood engraving.

Loraine has exhibited in London, Brighton, Sweden, and Germany. She completed a residency at Kingston Museum, London (January 2020) and gained an MA in Printmaking at Camberwell in 2021.”

Featured artist will demonstrate Poly Litho printing: “I studied Visual Art at .university , focusing mainly on printmaking. This was followed by a career as a television graphic designer producing title sequences and promos for dramas, which influenced my work both visually and technically on my return to printmaking.

Favourite printmaking processes include lithography, monotypes, image transfer and photopolymer etchings. A print always starts with a photograph, a snapshot of time. This image becomes the source of a print through various layers of mark-making processes, resulting in small, variable editions. It is a sense of time, whether passing, frozen or snatched in a photograph, that lies underneath the imagery chosen. This is also reflected in my interest in how time and distance can imbue everyday objects with emotional connections.

I have exhibited at the Summer Exhibition and the Chelsea Arts Society, and am a member of the Printmakers Council.”

Featured artist combines printmaking with a career in graphic design. Amanda studied graphic design in London, gravitating towards the print room where she explored lithography and screenprinting for poster design projects. After graduating she became a designer and then senior designer at the . She designed and illustrated publicity material for many major cross arts festivals. Two of her designs were awarded Best Poster of the Year by the International Society for the Performing Arts.

As a freelance designer she continued to work for the arts, while broadening her client base to include education and charities. The prospect of one day inheriting a beautiful Columbian press prompted Amanda to sign up to a printmaking class at Richmond Adult College. She rekindled her love of printmaking there with an emphasis on screenprinting and linocuts. Amanda now makes her prints in a garden shed studio, as often as her day job allows.

Her subjects are reactions to life experiences that trigger a moment of happiness and often reflect her enjoyment of the natural world. She hopes that some of the emotion that motivated the image will transfer to the viewer. Her design background continues to influence on her work, which is often bold and reductive – a combination of observation and imagination.
