Join guest tutor Alex Finberg at The Orchard Carving Studio for a short hands-on Introduction to Tool Sharpening workshop on Friday 11th September 9.30am - 12.30pm.

Learn simple, repeatable techniques for sharpening carving knives, hook knives, axes, chisels and gouges — and leave with the confidence to keep your tools beautifully sharp at home.

£80 | Beginners & intermediate sharpeners welcome. Sharpening kit, practice knife and, importantly, tea, coffee & biscuits included!

What a wonderful weekend of wood carving and sharpening down at the studio!

We also had our community carving day which we do once a month, the same day as the Dart Market here The Cider Press Centre. Steve from Mac the Knife was here too, kept busy sharpening all your tools and kitchen knifes. Steve is here once a month, but also runs his sharpening business day to day, so if you need anything sharpened he's your man. Drop him a line via his page.

The Orchard Carving Studio - Join our 5-week evening carving course, starting Tuesday 19th May (7–9pm).

This is one of our favourite courses to run. Over five weeks, you’ll build real momentum in your skills. You’ll learn the fundamentals of wood carving and develop your own project with William’s guidance every step of the way.

Take a look at what past students have created—from lions and Celtic knots to hare motifs, breadboards, house signs, and decorative stands. Not sure what to carve? No problem. We have a range of designs you can choose from, so there’s no need to feel “artistic” to get started.
