A Message from Marianne Windham of Fleet Jazz Fleet
******************************************
We very much look forward to seeing you in a couple of weeks on Thursday November 7th for our next lunchtime jazz with trombonist Mark Nightingale, and the following week on Tuesday November 12th for our evening concert featuring the extraordinary guitarists Pete Oxley and Nicolas Meier!
Lunchtime Jazz - Thursday November 7th
Multi-award winning jazz trombonist Mark Nightingale is a firmly established favourite on the UK jazz scene with a reputation as one of the top-flight jazz trombonists in Europe and worldwide. As well as longstanding musical associations with John Dankworth, Cleo Laine, Stan Tracey, Kenny Wheeler, Alan Barnes and many many more, Mark is also a busy studio musician in London, playing on hundreds of movie soundtracks as well as playing and recording with some of the greats in all genres of music, including Ray Brown (!), Clark Terry, Scott Hamilton, James Morrison, Bill Holman, Frank Sinatra, Charlie Watts, Sting and Steely Dan.
Do join us for an hour in the company of this great musician! John Cervantes is on piano, and myself on bass, and tickets are £10 (cash or card) on the door. Doors open 11.20am, performance times 12 to 1pm as usual.
An Evening with the Oxley-Meier Project - Tuesday November 12th
We are delighted to welcome Pete Oxley and Nicolas Meier to Fleet Jazz!
‘This album captures the lightning in a bottle effect created by the union of two perfectly matched artists and is already the front runner for my album of the year.’ (★★★★ Jazz Views)
Expect a dazzling display of contemporary fare, ranging from Turkish panache to soundscapes of latin America to English pastoralism, played on nylon string, steel string, electric, 12-string, fretless, slide, guitar-synth, glissentar guitars and more!
For their live gigs, the Oxley-Meier Guitar Project aim to entertain by playing with a spontaneity and an intuitive interplay between them that keeps them fresh and fired up from gig to gig. The quartet therefore comes to the performance with what they hope are the audience’s anticipations: to expect the unexpected. With Paul Cavaciuti on drums, and myself on bass (who will also be expecting the unexpected!).
‘A fascinating fusion opulent with evocative splendour’ (★★★★ MOJO ) ‘
Top ten CDs of the year’ (★★★★ The Telegraph)
The performance is on Tuesday 12th (please note the date is slightly earlier in the month than usual) and tickets are £20 https://www.theharlington.co.uk/Fleet_Jazz_Club.aspx or from the Box Office on 01252 811009 or on the door (cash or card is fine, thank you). Doors and bar open from 7.15pm, performance 8pm to 10pm.
We look forward to seeing you there. Thank you so much, Marianne x
