Do you know what music The Ripieno choir sings most? Think we don’t sing anything from after 1750…? Think again.

Every choir has its own musical style, inspired by the choir sound, the musical director’s creativeness, and what the singers love to sing. We certainly love to sing Renaissance and Baroque music: Renaissance composers feature heavily in our concert programmes, and we’ve performed whole concerts of Bach, Monteverdi and French Baroque. But, what about Classical, Romantic and modern pieces?

Actually, we sing a lot of music from the 20th/21st century too – in fact, we’ve sung more individual pieces from this period than Baroque. Living composers, such as James MacMillan and Eric Whitacre, are particular favourites. We even made more than a few forays into the Romantic period, with Mendelssohn and Rheinberger, too.

So if you enjoy singing Renaissance and Baroque music, but relish a bit of variety, then give us a call. We’d love to hear from you.

- Are confident holding your line in a smaller choir?

Then we could be just what you're looking for.

Expertly led by our fantastic MD Patrick Allies (also of professional ensemble Siglo de Oro), we value working hard on the details and continually improving our singing, musicianship and performance. We enjoy opportunities for solo singing, collaborations with professional musicians, workshops and the occasional mini tour and cathedral sing.

Join us for our 80th anniversary year, when our programmes showcase glorious music by Bach and Schutz, an Epiphany programme and a special decennial performance of Handel’s Messiah with Baroque orchestra.

Our highly enjoyable rehearsals run on Sunday evenings during term time, starting 6th September. Come try us out for a few weeks before auditioning. We are a friendly and welcoming group and new members are well supported!

What could be more idyllic than relaxing in the picturesque Surrey countryside, on a balmy summer’s evening, with beautiful music drifting through the air?

Ripieno Choir's "Summer Serenade" concert on Sunday 5 July at St Barnabas, Ranmore Common will include Amy Summers - Composer setting of the Nunc Dimittis.

This piece was written while Amy was Composer-in-Residence at Nottingham Cathedral Music choir in 2018. It was later published in the 3rd volume of Multitude of Voyces sacred music by women composers, and recorded by BBC Singers in 2021.
