What could be more idyllic than relaxing in the picturesque Surrey countryside, on a balmy summer’s evening, with beautiful music drifting through the air?

Ripieno Choir's "Summer Serenade" concert on Sunday 5 July at St Barnabas, Ranmore Common will include Amy Summers - Composer setting of the Nunc Dimittis.

This piece was written while Amy was Composer-in-Residence at Nottingham Cathedral Music choir in 2018. It was later published in the 3rd volume of Multitude of Voyces sacred music by women composers, and recorded by BBC Singers in 2021.

🎵 Apprentice Conductor gives Lully a smile 🙂

Elinor Thomas is one of four Apprentice Conductors at Ripieno Choir. She will be directing the sopranos and alto's in Lully's "Regina Caeli" this Saturday evening, accompanied by period instruments.

An amazing opportunity for Elinor at the start of her conducting career. We hope that she has more luck that Lully himself, who stabbed himself in the foot with his conducting cane whilst directing a performance of his "Te Deum"!

APPRENTICE CONDUCTOR SCHEME
Our Apprentice Conductors receive regular tuition in choral conducting from our music director, Patrick Allies, free of charge, whilst singing with the choir in our weekly rehearsals. As their skills and confidence grow, they take on some conducting responsibilities within rehearsals, and have the opportunity to conduct in our concerts.

At the heart of Radiant Majesty is Marc-Antoine Charpentier’s "Missa Assumpta est Maria": a work of architectural scale and luminous beauty, designed for vast, resonant spaces capable of matching its expressive range. Widely considered his finest mass setting, it unfolds as an immersive journey from quiet supplication to joyful affirmation.

Mondonville’s "Dominus regnavit" and Lully’s "Regina Caeli" complement the Charpentier with distinctive elegance, transforming their sacred texts into music of striking ceremonial presence.
