Teignmouth Beach Hut Raising During the first few weeks of every May 50 or so families and friends descend on ‘The Point’ in Teignmouth, to construct their beach hut.

The ‘Teignmouth Beach Hut Raising’ is a community event for residents and friends to celebrate the unique cultural phenomenon of the temporary beach hut - email: [email protected] While beach huts of many types are a popular image of the south coast, particularly Devon, this scenario of seasonally rented plots and self-build huts is entirely unique to ‘The Point’. This threshold between

the sea and the river is a unique part of the aesthetic and cultural identity of Teignmouth. The ‘Teignmouth Beach Hut Raising’ an event to celebrate this unique cultural phenomenon of temporary beach huts. Where all the tenants and friends are invited to construct their beach huts in unison over the duration of one day.

A heartfelt (and hilarious!) plea from the team behind the first EVER Teignmouth Beach Hut Raising; please help them to make their design and vision a reality. The more successful the event, the more likely it can become an annual event so the money you invest will make a genuine contribution to what promises to be a fantastic, fun way of bringing a local community together every year as well as helping to construct a new, innovative design.

Permanent beach huts are a British seaside icon, especially on the south coast, but seasonally rented plots and self-build huts are unique to The Point. To celebrate this local tradition we are inviting all the Point tenants to erect their beach huts together over the course of the day. All members of the community are welcome to join the event to celebrate Teignmouths rich history.
