Hey everyone,
I didn't want to have to write this, but I have hit a wall with attempting to get somewhere to run the next Tavioke. So it is cancelled.
A variety of things have conspired:
1. Venues are all booked on April the 11th
2. Venues all cost money
Point 1 is workaroundable - I could just move dates.
Point 2 isn't.
There were 2 goals for Tavioke, 1 was to support local businesses, with a priority on women and lgbtqia+ owned.
The other was to run Tavioke for charity, anything I spend that goes to other things comes out of that pot. As it stands, I would raise more money for charity by taking the money it would cost me to hire a venue and give it to that charity directly.
It's hopefully not the end of Tavioke.
But it absolutely is a hiatus of indeterminate length.
And I am so very sorry.
I promise you I am as sad about this as you are. I loved running it, I loved making money for charities in the funnest way possible. I hope it's not the end. I will keep on trying :)
With that said - this is something I do need to do:
Thank you to all of you who came along and sang, to those of you who danced, to those of you who stood around the edges clapping, laughing, cheering, singing
along.
Each and everyone of you made the nights special.
And of course there are special thank you's as well.
To Lauren Dillon Photography - without whom we would not have had the amazing photos ensuring our memories are always there. I messaged her out of the blue, and she never let me down, and even when she couldn't make it she went above anything I would have expected and found...
Fredz () - who saved me for Tavispooke - who was the only one who knew my plans for the evening, and just rolled with it, taking photos I absolutely love of all of us dressed up in incredible ways.
Hannah () - I was unbelievably happy when you made the collab with me, I still love the notebooks, I did not expect it to go anywhere, but OMG you did incredible work :)
To Shaun Smith Guitar - who lent me his lights and helped me run through whether I actually could sing sober in front of people - in what must have been an incredibly
cringy moment for him at his home :) For all the support in it happening, for turning up on the first night early to lend me his ear for the volumes, which leads us to...
Wrighty - who's sound system I appropriated - thank you for letting me use it, and for also picking up things I left behind by accident and ensuring they were safe. It's fair to say Tavioke wouldn't have happened without you - and the Pride afterparty
definitely wouldn't have.
Jacob - for first giving me the slot to do it, and allowing me to turn up SO many times to 'test' it would work.
Chris / Gary / Mark - for taking a punt and letting me run the nights.
Hayley - singing Suddenly Seymour with you was incredible, and I'm so sorry I can't run Tavioke on your birthday again.
Lastly, but perhaps most importantly. My friends.
To the ones who came to the first night and supported me before I'd even stepped in front of any of you (Mimi, Alice, Chrissy, Sophie, Lindsey, Millie, Nora),
to the ones I met from that night onwards (Alice (that's right - two Alice's), Louisa, Ellie, Michelle, Brett, Zelah, Michael, Neil, Stuart, Ieuan), and everyone I have
missed (and I am sorry if I have, there are too many of you amazing people π). I remember every night (Yep - sober!) - I remember watching you sing, I
remember when you would come up and ask for songs, finding them and I hope - making you feel safe to do your thing.
Watching people who were terrified go up and sing and come up beaming, asking for another song was amazing
(and it was all you by the way - not me).
I cannot express how sorry I am that I couldn't fix this.
