The Phoenix Singers - Taunton

The Phoenix Singers started life in Devon in 1971 and has since become a prominent chamber choir in the South West. Membership is by
informal audition.

Based in Taunton, the choir performs an eclectic mix of choral styles and periods. THE PHOENIX SINGERS are a choir of some 30 mixed voices who perform largely church and classical music from early Renaissance to contemporary times, but can easily turn their hand to close-harmony arrangements of popular 20th century standards. The choir is based in Taunton, Somerset, UK and was founded in 1971. A Choral Scholarship scheme exists for young singers.

Our Service of Nine Lessons and Carols at St John’s Church in Taunton in Tuesday 21st December was sadly the last performance of The Phoenix Singers.

It was a bittersweet event for the choir, but it was lovely to see many former Singers and Friends in the congregation, and we have received so many lovely comments following the Service. The choir was conducted by Andrew Maddocks, Frances Webb and Anne-Marie Twort, and accompanied by Ed Jenkins.

“Glorious music is still ringing in my ears from The Phoenix Singers last performance in St John’s Church……. a real feast of Carols and Readings for Christmas on the longest night of the year.”

Thank you to Revd. Jane Eastell, and all at St John the Evangelist Church for hosting the event and for making us so welcome.

We would like to take this opportunity to offer our sincere thanks to everyone who has supported us through the years, and in particular The Friends of The Phoenix Singers who have provided such wonderful encouragement.

The A.G.M. of The Phoenix Singers is planned for 7.30 pm on Tuesday 28th September 2021 at St John’s Church, Staplegrove, Taunton.

Sadly, due to the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic, our concert planned for Saturday 13th March 2021 has had to be postponed.

However, with the roll-out of vaccines and the steadily improving situation we are hopeful that we will be able to bring you some music later in the year. Watch this space!

Due to the ongoing Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic, The Phoenix Singers regret to advise that unfortunately we are unable to bring you our annual Festival Service of Nine Lessons and Carols this year.
However, with today's promising news regarding vaccines, we look forward to being able to bring you beautiful music in 2021. We will continue to monitor Government guidelines and provide an update as soon as possible.

We are so sorry that due to the ongoing Coronavirus (Corvid-19-19) situation, we are unable to perform ‘A Mother’s Love’ this evening. We hope to be able to present this programme of beautiful music celebrating mothers everywhere later in the year. In the meantime, please stay safe everyone. Following the latest advice from the UK Government, it is with regret that The Phoenix Singers announce that this concert has unfortunately been cancelled. We hope to be able to perform this beautiful music in November. We will of course, update our website with further information as it becomes available.
