The people behind the stories 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🗽

Ten moments from an unforgettable evening celebrating Welsh writing in New York a week ago.

Writers Emily White, Azuka Oforka and Katie Payne sharing the room with Matthew Rhys, Rachel Christopher, Harrison Tipping and Bartlett Sher — alongside friends, collaborators and supporters of Welsh theatre from both sides of the Atlantic.

The conversations, the laughter, the readings and the connections.

Here's to taking Welsh stories to the world.

Y bobl y tu ôl i'r straeon. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🗽

Deg foment o’r noson fythgofiadwy yn dathlu llenyddiaeth Gymreig yn Efrog Newydd wythnos yn ôl.

Yr awduron Emily White, Azuka Oforka a Katie Payne yn rhannu'r stafell gyda Matthew Rhys, Rachel Christopher, Harrison Tipping a'r cyfarwyddwr Bartlett Sher — ynghyd â ffrindiau, cydweithwyr a chefnogwyr theatr Gymreig o ddwy ochr yr Iwerydd.

Y sgyrsiau, y chwerthin, y darlleniadau a'r cysylltiadau.

Dyma i gymryd straeon Cymreig i’r byd.

We said we wanted to take Wales to the world... and we meant it.

Starting with NYC26.

Matthew Rhys re-joined WNT for the evening as part of our WNT NYC26 Company of incredible actors, bringing our new Welsh stories to life.

Watching the faces of our writers light up as their words filled the British Consulate General in Manhattan was pure joy. We’ll never forget it.

Writers. Actors. Creatives.

Renew your passports.

We're taking Welsh theatre international and we're only just getting started.

Dywedon ni ein bod ni eisiau mynd â Chymru i’r byd... ac roedden ni’n bod o ddifri.

Gan ddechrau gyda NYC26.

Ymunodd Matthew Rhys â WNT eto am y noson fel rhan o’n Cwmni WNT NYC26 llawn actorion anhygoel, gan ddod â’n straeon Cymreig newydd yn fyw.

Roedd gweld wynebau ein ysgrifennwyr yn goleuo wrth i’w geiriau lenwi Swyddfa Prif Gonswl Prydain ym Manhattan yn brofiad o lawenydd pur. Fyddwn ni byth yn ei anghofio.

Awduron. Actorion. Creadigolwyr.

Adnewyddwch eich pasborts.

Rydyn ni’n mynd â theatr Cymreig i’r byd rhyngwladol — a dim ond megis dechrau ydyn ni.

Welsh Voices. New York City. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 🗽

What a night celebrating the extraordinary talent coming out of Wales.

We were incredibly proud to take three brilliant Welsh female writers across the Atlantic to New York, sharing their work as part of the US–Wales Cultural Partnerships Reception, hosted at the British Consulate General in Manhattan.
Representing Welsh new writing were Emily White, Azuka Oforka and Katie Payne, with extracts from their work brought to life by a brilliant group of actors, including Matthew Rhys, Rachel Christopher and Harrison Tipping.

From bold new voices to stories rooted in Welsh identity, class, place and experience, it was a chance to put some of the writing being created in Wales in front of an international audience — and to celebrate the ambition, originality and sheer talent of Welsh artists.

We were in wonderful company, sharing the evening with our friends at Welsh National Opera and Theatr Cymru. Welsh artists and organisations came together to show just how much creativity is coming out of our small but mighty nation.

A huge diolch to the British Council Wales for supporting the trip; to Emily, Azuka and Katie for taking their words across the pond; and to the actors who gave those words a voice on the night.

The extraordinary wealth of writing talent in Wales is evident. Nights like this remind us why those voices deserve to travel.

From Wales to New York - and, we hope, far beyond. 🌎

Broadway - watch out for Wales!

Lleisiau Cymraeg. Efrog Newydd. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 🗽

Am noson o ddathlu'r dalent eithriadol sy'n dod o Gymru.

Roeddem yn hynod falch o fynd â thair awdures Gymreig ragorol ar draws yr Iwerydd i Efrog Newydd, gan rannu eu gwaith fel rhan o Dderbyniad Partneriaethau Diwylliannol UDA-Cymru, a gynhaliwyd yng Nghonswliaeth Gyffredinol Prydain ym Manhattan.
Roedd Emily White, Azuka Oforka a Katie Payne yn cynrychioli gwaith newydd o Gymru, gyda darnau o'u gwaith yn cael eu dod yn fyw gan grŵp gwych o actorion, gan gynnwys Matthew Rhys, Rachel Christopher a Harrison Tipping.

O leisiau newydd beiddgar i straeon sydd wedi'u gwreiddio mewn hunaniaeth, dosbarth, lle a phrofiad Cymreig, roedd yn gyfle i gyflwyno peth o'r gwaith ysgrifennu sy'n cael ei greu yng Nghymru i gynulleidfa ryngwladol — ac i ddathlu uchelgais, gwreiddioldeb a thalent eithriadol artistiaid Cymru.

Roeddem yng nghwmni gwych, yn rhannu'r noson gyda'n ffrindiau yn Welsh National Opera a Theatr Cymru. Daeth artistiaid a sefydliadau o Gymru ynghyd i ddangos faint o greadigrwydd sy'n deillio o'n cenedl fach ond nerthol.

Diolch enfawr i British Council Wales am gefnogi'r daith; i Emily, Azuka a Katie am fynd â'u geiriau dros y cefnfor; ac i'r actorion a roddodd lais i'r geiriau hynny ar y noson.

Mae'r cyfoeth rhyfeddol o dalent ysgrifennu yng Nghymru yn amlwg. Mae nosweithiau fel hyn yn ein hatgoffa pam mae'r lleisiau hynny'n haeddu teithio.

O Gymru i Efrog Newydd – ac, rydym yn gobeithio, ymhell y tu hwnt. 🌎

Broadway – gwyliwch allan am Gymru!

Take a trip down memory lane with us. Last week's programme launch got us feeling nostalgic.

Looking back at everything we’ve packed into our first year (and a bit), it's hard to believe how much we've already achieved.

We've toured the whole of Wales twice, popped shows to London twice, worked with extraordinary artists, welcomed huge audiences across the country, and created memories we'll be talking about for years to come.

Some moments feel like they happened yesterday. Others feel impossible to explain to anyone who wasn't there. (Looking at you, Stella the border collie that’s besties with Matthew Rhys! 🐾)

-----

Gwnaeth lansio'r rhaglen wythnos diwethaf gwneud i ni deimlo'n hiraethus.

Wrth edrych yn ôl ar bopeth rydyn ni wedi'i llenwi mewn ein blwyddyn gyntaf (a rhywfaint), mae'n anodd credu faint rydyn ni eisoes wedi'i gyflawni.

Rydyn ni wedi teithio Cymru gyfan ddwywaith, wedi cymryd sioeau i Lundain ddwywaith, wedi gweithio gydag artistiaid rhyfeddol, wedi croesawu cynulleidfaoedd enfawr ledled y wlad, ac wedi creu atgofion y byddwn ni'n siarad amdanyn nhw am flynyddoedd i ddod.

Mae rhai eiliadau'n teimlo fel pe baent wedi digwydd ddoe. Mae eraill yn teimlo'n amhosibl eu hesbonio i unrhyw un nad oedd yno. (Wrth edrych arnat ti, Stella y ci border collie sy'n ffrind gorau i Matthew Rhys! 🐾)
