Microsoft to launch web-based mobile app store in July
At the Bloomberg Technology Summit, Microsoft’s President of Xbox, Sarah Bond, declared that the company is set to launch its new mobile store this July. This long-discussed move aims to establish an alternative to dominant marketplaces like the App Store and Play Store.

Apple has quietly taken its Game Porting Toolkit 2 out of beta amid a broader drive to boost the appeal of Mac as a gaming platform.

First introduced at WWDC 2024, the Game Porting Toolkit 2.0 promised enhanced tools and capabilities to better facilitate the process of bringing games developed for Windows to Apple’s ecosystem.

While the Game Porting Toolkit provides developers with the ability to emulate Windows games on macOS, Apple is quick to stress that its purpose isn’t to run games directly on macOS for consumer use. Instead, it serves as a diagnostic platform—enabling developers to assess a game’s feasibility on Apple’s hardware before committing resources to a formal port.

The second-generation release brings considerable improvements over its predecessor. Enhanced emulation capabilities deliver better graphics and compute compatibility, increased performance, and even support for advanced features like ray tracing and the AVX2 instruction set. Industry optimism following challenges
The past few years have been a rollercoaster for game developers, with challenges such as Apple’s IDFA changes, fluctuating user acquisition (UA) costs, and a post-pandemic slowdown. However, the mood is shifting, with 77% of game developers expressing optimism about the industry’s growth.

Projections support this optimism, with global revenue for games expected to hit almost $190 billion this year.
