🏳️‍🌈 HAPPY PRIDE, EVERYONE! 🏳️‍🌈

In light of Sunderland City Council's decision not to fly the Pride flag throughout Pride Month, we're coming together to show that Sunderland is a safe, welcoming, and inclusive city for LGBTQIA+ people.

Join us at Port Independent and help create a powerful public display of solidarity, support, and celebration. We'll provide Pride flags, stationery, and craft materials for you to decorate with your own messages of encouragement and allyship.

🏳️‍🌈 Messages of encouragement
💖 Why Pride matters to you
✨ Words of support and solidarity

Can't make it to a session?

No problem! We can provide a take-away Craftivism Kit so you can get involved from home, your workplace, or your community space.

📣 We'd also love to hear from local businesses, organisations, and community spaces that would like to host their own Craftivism Station during Pride Month. If you'd like to volunteer, help facilitate sessions, or set up a Pride flag decorating station in your workplace or venue, please get in touch.

Let's make Pride visible and show that our community stands proudly with LGBTQIA+ people. ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜

We had an absolutely lush day out with our women’s group at

Such gorgeous weather, beautiful art, and for most of us it was our very first visit!

It was also the end of our funded project, supported by The National Lottery Community Fund, and what a lovely way to finish. It’s been absolutely wonderful getting to know these amazing women, making artwork together, sharing creativity, and exploring different kinds of art.

If you’re in Sunderland, pop into The Winter Gardens and check out Rebel Women of Sunderland, on until August. You’ll be able to see some of the brilliant pieces the women created through workshops led by artist Tallulah Lines.

And this isn’t the end — it’s just the beginning. We’re already starting to plan more projects for the summer and, hopefully, some new funded opportunities are coming soon!

This is exactly why I got into the arts — to make creativity accessible, welcoming, and enjoyable for everyone. 🩷

Well… the market didn’t go the way we hoped 😞 Sales were almost non-existent, and apart from a few lovely conversations, most people just rushed by.

I’ve done markets before and honestly, they are SO much work for not a lot of payoff sometimes. Massive respect to the people who organise them and do them regularly because it is hard work.

It’s made me think that maybe I need to focus more on our online shop. We do have one, but if I’m honest, it’s been a bit neglected. So tell me people what would you like to buy? What kind of art, gifts, or creative things would you actually want to see? Supporting local artists really does make a difference 💛

The good news is we’ll have a gallery space soon, which means there’ll finally be a little place where people can browse and buy one-of-a-kind artwork in person.

One thing I’m especially gutted about — I made over 60 mystery art bags and only sold 3 😭 They’re filled with the cutest little artworks and creative goodies, so if anyone would like one, please let me know. I can add them to the website and post them out too.

Thank you to everyone who supports small artists and small creative businesses — it genuinely means the world

ART GOSS: Let’s Get Clued Up on Classical Art.

Think classical art is all marble statues missing limbs and serious men in togas? Think again.

Join us Friday 22 May, 6–8pm at Port Independent for a fun, informal deep dive into the messy, dramatic, scandalous world of Classical Art with Art Goss.

From iconic statues and mythological chaos to erotic frescoes and very spicy vase scenes! We’ll unpack the stories, symbols, and culture behind one of the most famous periods in art history.

Art Goss is art history without the dryness: honest conversations, no silly questions, and zero pressure if this is all completely new to you. Because art history isn’t just about paintings — it’s about humanity, power, gossip, weirdness, and the absolute chaos of being alive.

Hosted by artist and curator Liv Askwith, whose work explores hyper-femininity and draws deeply from the well of art history.
