COMING SOON… OWA MARKET

Something very exciting is coming to Jacky White’s Market. 👀

OWA Market, presented by Pink Collar Gallery, will celebrate the people, stories, memories and history of this much-loved Sunderland market, while imagining what its next 100 years could look like.

We’re going to be collecting stories, photographs, memories, objects and the people who have made Jacky White’s what it is.

Because the history of a place isn’t just in the buildings — it’s in the people. 🩷

And we don’t want to wait until we open to get you involved!

Before OWA Market officially opens, we’ll be running workshops, activities and opportunities to come along, get involved, share your stories and help shape what the project becomes. 🧵✨

We want this to be something that is made with the people of Sunderland, not just for them.

Got a memory of Jacky White’s?
A photo of someone who worked there?
A story about an old shop or stall?
Something you’ve kept for years?
Or simply someone you think deserves to be remembered?

We want to hear from you.

More workshops, events and ways to get involved coming very soon… 👀

OWA MARKET
100 years of Jacky White’s. 100 years of stories.

✨ I Am the Story – Session Two ✨

Join us for the second session of I Am the Story on Monday 27th July, 6–8pm at Port Independent.

This week we'll begin creating our portraits using pencil, collage and paint, exploring different ways of representing ourselves (or a loved one if you'd rather tell their story). These experiments will become the inspiration for the embroidered portraits we'll start stitching in the following sessions.

No experience needed—just come along, have a go, and spend a couple of hours getting creative in a friendly, welcoming space.

🎟️ Book your place here:

We'd love to see you there! 💛

Fancy learning about art history without the boring, dry lectures?

Our Art Goss talks are all about the stories we don't get taught – women artists, q***r representation, working-class voices, and so much more. Not just the same old dead white guys!

These are fun, informal sessions where no question is a stupid question. We'll chat about why certain artists and paintings became so famous, uncover hidden histories, and have a proper good goss about art.

Led by the incredible curator and artist Liv Askwith.

🎟️ Grab your tickets here: https://pink-collargallery.com/pages/whats-on

💖 Or join our Patreon – tickets are included in the £5 tier! https://www.patreon.com/c/PC_G

Come along, have a laugh, learn something new, and discover that art history is far more exciting than you were probably taught at school.
