Christmas Tree Festival 2023 has been a real success. We’re really grateful to everyone who took part and all who visited.

We love to hear your feedback. Are there any charities that you’d like to see us support next year? (yes, we’re hoping to go again in 2024 👀🎄)

Also, if there was anything that you really loved about this year’s event, or something that we can improve on - let us know.

BBC Radio Suffolk’s Sarah Lilley is going to reveal the total that we have raised at this year’s Christmas Tree Festival this morning at 10:20am!

Tune in then to hear about the outstanding amount we have been able to raise as a community for three fantastic local causes 🎄

Most of the trees were collected by the entrants who decorated them - but 15 of the 35 were available for local families after the event closed.

We had a fantastic uptake on these. They were all collected by Monday evening, ready for local people to enjoy over the festive season.

One of our entrants wanted to pass on one of their decorations to those who would be having the tree to start them off as a gift! 🤍

The final third of funds raised at this year’s Christmas Tree Festival will be going to support the Restoration Project at St Mary’s Church, Cavendish.

St Mary’s kindly hosted the festival again this year for the second time and following feedback from last year, many were keen to see the setting receive support.

Light pours in through the vast east window and it’s a really peaceful place to spend time. It’s at the centre of the community, with regular visits and services held by the Primary School and as part of the Stour Valley Benefice. There has even been a yoga class or two here in recent times.

As a beautifully preserved Suffolk Church, where originally a Saxon church stood, then a Norman church, followed by the present day version which was started in the 14th century, with the chancel being added in 1381 by Sir John Cavendish and further additions in the 15th century and Victorian period.

We’re delighted to be able to donate funds to support their restoration projects and to help in a small way to ensure it’s sustainable future.

The Rural Coffee Caravan is another local charity that will be benefiting from funds raised at this year’s Christmas Tree Festival.

They started in 2003 to tackle rural isolation and promote community spirit throughout Mid Suffolk during the summer months. Since then, the project has spread its wings across the whole of the county and continued to grow. There are now three camper vans and their services are able to reach even more rural communities across Suffolk.

The Coffee Caravan helps foster community spirit by bringing people together in a relaxed social atmosphere to just chat and get to know each other better. More and more villages want the Coffee Caravan to visit and the list of agencies wanting their information taken out to rural Suffolk continues to increase.

Thanks to your kind donations and visits to the festival, we can support their important work and future aims.

One of the charities that the fundraising from this year’s Christmas Tree Festival will benefit is Maggie's Cambridge.

Maggie’s Centre is located at Addenbrooke’s Hospital and is staffed by Cancer Support Specialists, financial advice, Nutritionist, Therapists and a Psychologist who can support people in whichever way best suits their needs.

It is a place to find practical advice about benefits and eating well; a place where qualified experts provide emotional support; a place to meet other people in a similar situation or simply to sit quietly with a cup of tea.

We’re delighted to be able to donate a third of the funds that we’ve raised with your kind donations to support their important work 🤍

What a week it has been!

Thank you to everyone who has taken part and those who have been along to visit the festival over the past 8 days and two evenings. The creativity of the tree themes and decorations have been outstanding!

We hope that we’ve been able to raise a fantastic amount to divide between Maggies Cambridge, the Rural Coffee Caravan Project and St Mary’s Rural Coffee Caravan.

We are grateful for each donation made and for all of the support.

Thank you all 🙏🏼 😊

Would you like a real Christmas tree?

Cavendish Christmas Tree Festival closes tomorrow and I’ve got eight trees that I’d like to rehome with local people to enjoy in time for Christmas.

If you’d like a tree, please get in touch with me.
It will be available to collect from St Mary’s Church, Cavendish tomorrow/Tuesday morning. We would be grateful for a cash donation, which will go towards the total funds raised and will be given to charity.

The trees are a good quality 5ft Norway Spruce - you’ll need a tree stand.

If you, or someone that you know would like a tree, please get in touch with me here to be added to the list or by emailing: [email protected]

Thank you to everyone who came to Carols By Candlelight at St Mary’s Church this evening. The church was full! It was lovely to see so many of you arrive to sing, listen to the readings and admire the trees one final time before they begin to disappear tomorrow!
