I said I’d keep posting this one as it progresses. It’s still very rough and some major elements are still to be added - but it’s getting there… just really slowly!

Things will speed up a bit now my commissions are out of the way.

Going to do a few progress videos with this one so you can see it develop. I’ve been working on a few other pieces, so I haven’t got quite as far as I’d hoped, but there’s more texture added now and I’ve just started playing around with some of the colours.

Still early days, but I thought I’d share the process as this one develops.

A very early look at something new I’m working on.

At the moment it’s just a rough pencil sketch on a long canvas, but this one is going to take the textured series in a slightly different direction.

I’m introducing a subtle landscape element this time, while keeping the texture and flowers that have become such a big part of this series.

I’m not going to give too much away yet… but hopefully it’ll start to make sense as it develops.

For reasons that haven’t been explained, my Etsy shop has been suspended! Hopefully they will give me an explanation at some point, but in the meantime I’ve had to remove that link. 😡

Everything is still available through my website.

UPDATE: Etsy are being incredibly unhelpful and refusing to tell me the reason. And, as so few of my sales happen on Etsy, I’ve decided to abandon them completely.

I know I’m not the only person this has happened to, they need to get their act together.

I found a frame I’d bought a while back and never used, and thought it might work as a smaller version of the textured floral paintings I’ve been doing recently.

Four red poppies, lots of texture, and plenty of little hints of other wildflowers hidden amongst the marks and colours.

It’s funny how something can start with something as simple as rediscovering an old frame.

These paintings all came from the same idea really… creating something that feels calm.

Lots of texture, layers, handmade details and colours that change as the light moves across them.

Really pleased to finally be able to share this one.

It was painted as a commission, so I've had to keep it under wraps until it reached it was safely in the hands of its owner, Irene. Inspired by my recent textured floral series, it features purple sweet peas, teal tones and plenty of layered texture.

One of the nicest parts of creating commissioned work is being able to make something that's just right for the person who's going to live with it. Whether that's a favourite colour, a different size or simply a particular feeling they want the painting to have, it's always a collaboration.

Looking at this now, it's hard to believe it ended up as a painting at all! At this stage it's really just texture, a rough idea and a bit of hope that it'll all come together eventually.

It never looks particularly promising to begin with, but I've learned to trust the process (most of the time anyway!).

I'll share the finished piece in a few days. 😊
