Hi guys, as a landscape artist working with oil, I tend to steer away from pet portraits for fear of not achieving the likeness. But my daughter asked me to have a go at painting a portrait of our aging dog Freddie. A little bit out of my comfort zone, but shouldn’t we do this from time to time? Obviously the first image is the painting and a photo of the guy himself in the second image just so you can see what he actually looks like. My daughter is delighted with it. So thought it would be interesting to share.

I was delighted to find out this painting was sold back in March It’s a little different from my usual scenes and really enjoyed creating the fabric textures and effects in the artwork. And telling the story of an adventure, which I’m sure its new owner appreciates greatly. 🔴

The latest oil painting is a scene I know very well in the Lake District. Wast water, surrounded by the beautiful mountains of Yew Barrow , Kirk Fell and beyond Great Gable.
I’ve had the pleasure of climbing all of these mountains and looking down on this body of water from their summits. It’s an incredible place. It’s one of the most remote parts of the Lake District. Where you can truly feel you are miles from anyone, and this brings a special beauty with it. The painting is named ‘The Calm’ because this is what it does. When you sit by the water’s edge listening to the gentle trickle of waves on rocks, looking at this huge landscape, the feeling of insignificance is strong, worries disappear and a sense of peace washes over you. I’ve tried to convey this in my tribute to a truly special place. The painting is size A2 which is 420mm X 594mm and available on my website (in bio)

Inspired by a visit to Whitby during 2024, this oil painting was completed this week after a number of weeks on the easel. Title is ‘Leaving Whitby’ oil on panel and added to my website at a price of £350. There are no plans for prints, so this will be a unique artwork.

I love observing life around sea fishing. Capturing this boat named ‘Pride & Joy’ leaving the busy quayside of Whitby for open water in the hope of catching crab and lobster was the winning scene I chose to paint from a number of potentials in this beautiful little harbour on the east coast of England.

‘Mist Rolling in’ was painted almost 5 years ago and sat in my studio for some time before it was framed as it was size 8” x 12”. It then had a couple of displays before slipping out of the car and the frame broke.
Sadly it went back on the shelf out of sight and forgotten about 😞 …..until this year. I decided to make up for my neglect by giving it a bespoke frame and double mount with a fine black line, the emphases was to give depth in the painting and I was delighted with the result. Its very similar to the frame that broke falling out of the car. I also included it in the five paintings I have put into Goose Green Art Gallery, so it now has the perfect opportunity to find a loving home. Price to purchase is £250 either through the gallery or directly through my website in bio.

Just delivered ‘Helping Hand’ along with four other original pieces to Goose Green Gallery in Altrincham. They will look great in this beautiful town centre gallery with it’s eclectic collection of artworks.
