Hello everyone
So, it looks like these posts are turning out to be an every 8/9 month occurrence... 😁 - the last one was in March...
Time flies !!!!
So here is your 8 monthly run down of the things the group has watched on TV, Film or stage lately. Enjoy:
TV/ Radio
Chernobyl - Documentary on C5 - fascinating and sad.
The Hugh Edwards Drama/ Doc also on C5 - Martin Clunes was absolutely outstanding capturing a likeness of Hugh Edwards.
Twenty Twenty Six - BBC - following on from W1A in the same style and this time behind the scenes during the Fifa world cup preparations - hilarious.
Miriam Margolyes documentary BBC2 - she is funny. Eats raw onions like they're apples.
The Stolen Girl on C5 - good psychological drama.
Macdonald and Dodds - a crime drama series featuring the brilliant Jason Watkins, set in Bath.
Missed Call - C5 thriller drama with Joanna Scanlan.
Sister Boniface - possibly filmed at St Bernards Abbey Shepshed?
The Cage - a thought provoking tv drama starring Sheriden Smith and Michael Socha, well acted by both.
The Neighbourhood - reality tv show, hosted by Graham Norton.
Queens of Mystery - Acorn TV comedy drama Narrated by Juliet Stephenson.
The Testaments - sequel to the Handmaids Tale.
The Affair - Ruth Wilson and Dominic West - edge of your seat stuff.
For a bit of laugh-out-loud tv - Celebs go dating with Rob Becket doing some ace narration, and Zero Stars Benidorm, where Sara Pascoe and Roisin Conaty try out very low rated activities 🤣
2 weeks in August - another psychological drama (we love these don't we! ).
Death Valley - yep, crime mystery - with Timothy Spall.
Radio 4 - Uncanny - funny radio show about real life stories of paranormal encounters.
Tip Toe - Russell T Davies TV show on C4, very shocking and thought provoking - especially the ending sections.
Legends on Netflix - crime drama series starring Steve Coogan about customs officers who go undercover - based on an incredible true story.
Hustle - old crime drama TV series starring Adrian Lester.
Clarksons Farm Series 5 - funny.
Ann Droid - very funny and very touching too, starring Diane Morgan and Sue Johnston - BBC.
Films
My Dinner With Andre - made in 1981 and almost all of the film is just one conversation between 2 men. They just wouldn't make this type of film now, with our limited attention spans.
Surrender To It - a film made by members of the Nottingham actors workshop. Shot in beautiful landscape in the UK and a nice story.
We were thinking of great films with narration in and we came up with - Forrest Gump, Fight Club, Shawshank Redemption, Bridget Jones Diary, Goodfellas, American Beauty, The Lovely Bones, Great Gatsby...
Peaky Blinders - The immortal Man - Great to watch the story come to an end, very true to the style of the tv show with even more weight.
Great Escapes - with Michael Cane and Glenda Jackson.
The Christophers - with Ian McKellen.
Les Liaisons Dangerous - at the ARC Cinema in Beeston, the NT live version. Very good.
Project Hail Mary - Ryan Gosling as a man who goes into space and meets an Alien he names Rocky. Quite a lot of humour in it.
A bit too much of everything perhaps? (laboured?)
All of us Strangers on C4 - Romatic fantasy film with Andrew Scott and Paul Mescal.
Glass Onion - the comedy/ thriller whodunnit with Daniel Craig.
Obsession - a low budget film that has become a huge hit and is fantastic. Great reviews from those who watch. Horror/ thriller and shows that a huge budget is not needed to get people on the edge of their seats.
72 Hours - on Netflix with Kevin Hart - very funny, like an American Inbetweeners with less near-the-knuckle grossness.
Spiderman - the new one in cinemas now is apparently ace. Worth a visit for.
Theatre
Rocky Horror Show at the Royal Centre - fab. Did our Drama Group member dress up???? yes they did!
Death on the Nile at the Theatre Royal - Glynis Barber starred in this traditional play.
The Traitors Experience in London - not so much a stage production, but lots of fun was had playing the game and our drama group member got to the last 4 !
222 Ghost Story at the Theatre Royal - good but not as scary as it could have been perhaps.
Shawshank Redemption at the Duchess Theatre, the Encore Theatre group. All male cast.
Barnham at the Playhouse Nottingham
Pop & Rock Choir of Belper and Long Eaton performed for the first time - it was great.
Anything Goes at Kilworth House - absolutely beautiful open air production - thank goodness the weather has been good this year - perfect for a production like this!
