I’m a theatre student who is creating a project about the nursing community during COVID-19. I would love to have the opportunity to speak with nurses who have been working on the front lines for us during this time to learn about their experiences. If you or someone you know would like to share your story, please email [email protected] for more information about the project and I will get back to you. Any input is really appreciated!

I realise that there are many nurses with experiences and stories to share, but do not want to do so publicly. I am devising a script which could incorporate elements of your personal story. We will discuss the full process before you share anything and agree on whether you would like to be an anonymous contributor or be credited. I will keep you updated on the progress and end result. My hope is to produce a short play for performance in London and online. Many thanks for your support!

We have all encountered nurses in our lives, whether during a routine check up, an illness or while visiting someone in the hospital. They are silent superheroes. During COVID-19 our nurses have been faced with challenge and strain. We clapped for the NHS, some of us donated money or meals, but how many of us sat down with a nurse and listened? Listened to the range of emotions they experience throughout their day, to the interactions they have with their patients, to the difficulty of their job, to the joys and the sorrows. We need to hear the real voice of the people who help save our lives, who show us compassion, who are fearless. Let’s listen. Just listen, fully, radically, compassionately. Let’s hear the stories of nurses and give them recognition and thanks.

This project is to offer a platform to the nursing community to tell their stories. To give a voice to people who might not want to share their experiences publicly. To highlight the struggles and joys of everyday life as a nurse. To shine a brighter light on the contributions of nurses to our world. To listen. To connect. To empathize. To share. To see the person behind the scrubs.
