If you know me, you know that technology is my nemesis 🫠

Despite this I've been working behind the scenes building my website. It's been a slow and arduous process but it's finally done and published 🎉

Please pop over and have a look - it's not perfect but it gives you the gist of what I do.

If you have any feedback please be gentle 🫣 There are plenty of things I'd improve if I had the skills. There's a reason I'm a dance teacher and not an admin or techy person 😆

Sometimes dancers can have all the talent in the world, but something is still holding them back. If they dance better in the studio than they do on stage, it could be nerves or self-doubt creeping in right when it matters most.

A couple of years ago a mum brought her daughter to the studio, ready to put the work in.

We started PBT and within a few months her posture and alignment had improved and we knew we were on the right track.

Fast forward to now and there is a significant difference in her strength and technique. This is from showing up week after week and focusing on what can sometimes feel like the slow and boring details!

Yes it's far more exciting to try the leaps and turns that they see on social media, or the 'hacks' that promise instant results, but thankfully this mum and daughter understand that consistency and playing the long game is much more beneficial.

I'm grateful that they have trusted me and the process, and very proud of how far she has come 💖

⭐ Are you a parent of a dancer that struggles with any of the following...

Performance anxiety
Getting through auditions successfully
Nailing turns or leaps
Regaining confidence after injury
Self doubt

I'm Charlotte - a mind and body ballet coach - and I may be able to help ✨

I create individually tailored visualisation scripts and programmes to help dancers with performance psychology, technical improvement and strength & conditioning.

I have a background in counselling and clinical hypnotherapy and 30+ years experience teaching ballet.

Coaching with me will not interfere with their current training as I don't run a school, so have no comps, exams or shows to enter students into.

I work with my students to identify specific areas of improvement with great results.

I recently helped a student overcome a struggle she was having with her penche arabesque...

"I was struggling with my penché in ballet because I lacked stability and my hip placement wasn't correct. This made it difficult to hold the position and achieve the height I wanted.

Charlotte guided me through a peaceful visualisation exercise where I lay down with my eyes closed. She talked me through every part of performing a penché, explaining what each part of my body should be doing and where to focus my attention. It was very calming and helped me understand the movement in a different way.

When I tried my penché afterwards, I noticed an immediate improvement. I felt much more stable, didn't wobble, and my leg reached a higher position. I also felt more confident and focused while performing the movement."

I have a couple of 1-1 spaces available from September. Drop me a message if you'd like to find out more.

What happens when you can offer your students guided visualisation alongside years of ballet coaching experience?

I recently rebranded and now call myself a mind and body ballet coach. This perfectly sums up my 3 areas of expertise...

Dance, Education and Psychology.

Over the course of my career, I've worked separately in all of these fields and now the time has come to combine them into one clear vision 💥

With a background in counselling and mental health, a diploma in clinical hypnotherapy, and 30 years spent teaching ballet, I'm in a unique position to be able to help dancers in a more effective way than just 'teach and repeat'.

I can help to retrain the brain to overcome typical things that dancers struggle with...

Performance anxiety
Rebuilding confidence after injury
Thriving at auditions
Self doubt & negative self talk

And more than that - we can rewire physical things too...

Landing pirouettes cleanly
Increasing the number of turns
Control and balance
Improving arabesque lines

Tapping into the mind and body connection as well as training the body with drills and conditioning exercises, has a powerful impact on the outcome, unlocking progress that pure repetition can't reach.

I received this amazing testimonial from a student that I'd tried this method with recently.

This really is where the magic happens...

Saying goodbye to a lovely group of students that I've had the pleasure of teaching for the last 2 years...

I praised them for the strong bond that they'd created and told them to continue building each other up as friends and dancers.

Dancers tend to negatively compare and judge each other when they're insecure about themselves. Not only does this create a toxic studio culture, it can shape the mental health of our young, impressionable dancers.

As teachers, it's our responsibility to pass on the values of peer support and encouragement to our students.

Dance teaching is about so much more than just technique. We have the ability to have a huge impact on how young people feel about themselves.

That's the legacy I hope to leave with every group I teach - not just improved technique, but young people who've learned how to lift each other up 💖💖💖

Sometimes it's not just technique that we need to work on. I've worked with lots of dancers who have the talent but the thing that's holding them back is their mindset.

How do you change your mindset though?

This is where I can help...

I've taught dance for 30 years, I've danced professionally but as well as that I have a background in counselling and clinical hypnotherapy.

This combination of skills puts me in a unique position to help propel aspiring dancers to where they want to be.

As well as the physical elements (strength, conditioning, technique, placement, posture), I help my students with self belief, performance anxiety, rebuilding confidence after injury and much more.

Students come to me for 1-1 sessions that are tailored made for their individual needs. Sessions with me won't interfere with their dance school training as I don't offer exams, comps or shows. My sessions are designed to enhance the training they are currently undertaking 💖

I have 2 spaces available from September. Drop me a message if you'd like to find out more.

Following the advice of my business mentor Rosina Andrews Method - Dance (🙏) I changed my handle to make it clearer how I help dancers.

Charlotte Wheeler PBT has become Charlotte Wheeler Mind and Body Ballet Coach

PBT is still one of many tools that I use to help dancers reach their goals. But it's time to start shouting about the the other ways I can help too 📢

I've always believed in the power of the mind but I wondered how others would perceive it. It can be seen as a bit 'airy fairy' so I avoided talking about it 🧘

Having recently seen transformative results using visualisation & mental rehearsal techniques with my students, I've decided to stop staying quiet and let the world know!

Because this powerful tool can make a real difference to dancers whose minds create obstacles that can put an end to their dreams.

It sounds dramatic but there are many aspiring dancers who never made it professionally because they lost confidence after they were injured

Or they believed they weren't good enough

Or performance anxiety held them back

I'm making it my mission to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to be the absolute best they can be without negative self-talk holding them back 💖
