Find out about our forthcoming concerts at https://sherbornechamberchoir.org.uk/forthcoming-concerts/ Formed in 1979, Sherborne Chamber Choir is made up of around forty members from Sherborne and the surrounding area who all enjoy singing a wide range of music, from the sixteenth century to the present day. Conducted for most of that time by Paul Ellis, over the years we have built up a reputation
throughout the region and further afield for the high standard of our performances and regularly give concerts with some of this country’s top soloists and orchestral players. We have a long standing informal relationship with Sherborne Abbey, giving three varied concerts a year there, as well as singing for occasional services. Recent programmes include Bach St Matthew Passion and Handel Israel in Egypt with period orchestra, Bob Chilcott Canticles of Light, Jonathan Dove Missa Brevis, and Praetorius Mass for Christmas Day. Further afield we have sung at Notre Dame Cathedral, Paris, in San Gimignano and Siena Cathedral, Italy, Bruges, and most recently Croatia. Our first CD, Comfort, Life and Love, was launched in 2008, in aid of St Margaret’s Somerset Hospice and hospices throughout the country, and has raised thousands of pounds to date. More recently we recorded Carols from Sherborne Abbey with Sherborne Abbey Choir, launched in December 2015. Like all choirs, we were unable to meet very much during the Pandemic, and our fortieth anniversary season had to be put on hold, so we’re delighted to be together again now and back in action!
