Our Story
Welcome to the Enable US Project - bringing you two Festivals of acclaimed theatre performances at the Drama Studio, Sheffield each Spring and Autumn. Enable US is all about providing a new platform within The University of Sheffield Performance Venues for creative expression, exploration, development and debate, with public engagement and student experience as two of its cornerstones. We are enabling new and innovative performing arts companies to perform in Sheffield, companies that may not have previously had a platform to present their work in the city. We are enabling Sheffield audiences to see this work without having to travel to Manchester, Leeds or Liverpool and giving our Students the opportunity to work alongside these companies both academically and recreationally. We’d also love to be able to keep you in touch with the project, with our development and the work we’ll be presenting across the year. Signing up to our mailing list will enable us to tell you about what we’re doing first hand. Enable US also provides support for the creation of new work by Students, University of Sheffield Alumni and local artists across the Northern Powerhouse regions, by providing space to create, to research and develop, and ultimately to access to new audiences. The programme will encourage opportunities for our Students to work alongside professional arts practitioners, to develop their own creativity and to grow as individuals. We also aim to develop work based learning programmes and internships within the cultural and creative professions. Finally, Enable US will foster interdisciplinary practise and collaborations with academics, and will present performance to stimulate and ignite debate and discussion. There will be many ways to get involved in the Enable US Project, from presenting work, gaining access to development opportunities, participation in workshops and training, to seeing performances and being able to talk with professional arts practitioners about their work. Check out the ‘Get Involved’ tab above to find out more.
