Deeply saddened to hear of the passing of our friend Danny today. An absolute stalwart of the Sheffield scene, he’d been killing it round here since long before we moved to the city, and continued to do so right up until his untimely passing.
Known commonly as the disco bastard (which doesn’t quite do justice to the huge heart on the guy), he was a huge influence on us as we were learning and developing our sound, as he was for so many DJs in this city.
He was lined up to play with us in May, and now our hearts are totally broken that it wasn’t to be.
RIP matey, hope you’re giving the pish DJs a hard time up there, just like ya did down here ❤️ x

Following a tumultuous week for the world, we have taken stock and sought to re-evaluate what we can do to make a difference. We began Sonido purely based on our love for music and cultures from across the world; many of which are produced and distributed by Black artists and labels. Our events are owned by this music and without it we wouldn’t be where we are. We must all improve and so we pledge to use our events to make an increased difference as we move on into the future; we must all do better in our respective fields to stamp out injustice and inequality in our society.

Today, Bandcamp are waiving fees and we urge you to support black producers/black owned labels, using this incredible list in the following link: https://bit.ly/BlackBandcamp.

Bandcamp have also produced a list (https://daily.bandcamp.com/features/artists-and-labels-offering-donations-special-merch-and-more-on-friday-june-5) of artists and labels preparing special releases for today, including those donating their share to organisations in support of racial justice and change.

There are SO many unbelievable artists and labels on each list, many you have heard of and much more you haven’t, so please take the time to dig through it, listen to as much as possible and spare a small amount to support the people and labels producing all the music we love.

This gesture should be one of many many more; and all of us must move forwards together and educate ourselves to achieve a better society. This moment cannot be lost to the next news story that floods our social media feeds - so please be the best you can be and do not fall silent in times of injustice.

Including those donating to organizations fighting for racial justice and change.

In times of such uncertainty and darkness, we thought we’d bring some sonic rays of sunshine to all of you…

As any movement with future dates and bookings has of course ground to a halt, we thought we’d start a little mix series to keep everyone in the loop and share with you the music that’s been keeping us going through the lockdown!

The Sonido Sessions will feature mixes from our residents and beyond, and will hopefully provide some welcome respite from the doom and gloom of isolation. We will be trying our best to post new mixes every couple of weeks so stay tuned…

To kick off the series, our very own resident and Tzara head honcho Kake brings a mixture of synthpop, afro and world disco records for 70 minutes of sumptuous selection. No mixing; just full tracks. With a number of 'chance buys' from a recent S.A. record order sprinkled in, we couldn’t think of anyone better to kick off the series.
