Love this photo.

Our teacher Ella recently found this picture of her grandparents receiving their dance medals from Raymond and Carol Draper many years ago.

Fast forward to today, and Ella teaches at Drapers, her mum Tracey still dances with us, you’ll often spot her sister Daniella at events, and Ella’s nieces are now dancing too.

Emotional post incoming (everyone gets emotional over weddings anyway, don’t they?)

People often assume the only measure of success for a dance school is trophies, exam results, competition results, or class numbers.

And don’t get me wrong. We have those too. But there are other measures as well!

Look at this. This photo was taken at Caroline’s wedding.

Some of the people here no longer teach at Drapers. Some have moved into completely different careers. Some aren’t in the studio every week like they once were.

Yet here they all are. Because while their role in the studio may have changed, their place in our community never did.

I’ve always believed that the most special thing about a dance school isn’t something easy to explain as it’s not all about what happens during classes. It’s what happens around them. And it turns out it’s not just that way for students, but for teachers too.

That’s something I’m incredibly proud of, because perhaps we’ve built something bigger than just a dance school.
