And then my Shroomz were Spawned....
Mushroom Marvellous is a memory arts and crafts company aimed at capturing special moments, past, present and future with bespoke designed pieces of artworks and keepsakes. My signature mushroom features as a uniquely hinted element within every artwork as a sign of positive change and new beginnings.
I am a professionally trained BA Fine Artist, graduating from Sunderland University in 2015. Alongside my part time study I progressed rapidly within a corporate company as a Senior Manager with extensive experience in leadership, project management and transformational change. After 18 years in a blue chip company I was given the option of voluntary redundancy and made the bold decision to follow my dreams and show the world my passion for creativity by setting up my own art business.
I have skills in many mediums and eventually found my passion in the art of mixed media and print after many years of experimenting and trial and error - but why mushrooms I hear you cry?.... For me there was always something missing from my artwork, I worked endlessly to perfect every piece, trying new things, researching current trends and I grew increasingly frustrated with what I was producing. It wasn’t until sadly, the passing of my lovely legendary nanna earlier this year that it suddenly came to me...... As I stood at the pulpit reading her eulogy I gazed down at her memorial flowers and wondered what happened with so many flowers from so many memorial events afterwards. I was extremely surprised to find out a lot of these funeral flower baskets remain behind and are simply discarded. I therefore took our nanas flowers home with me and was instantly inspired to make, create, paint and draw and so my memory artworks were born. I wanted to symbolise my pieces with something which was not only visually pleasing without being a detriment to the artwork but also a sign of new beginnings, hope, change and positivity.
Throughout folklore the mushroom has been considered a good luck symbol. Finding a mushroom is considered to be very lucky and mean good fortune is at hand. It sounds so cliche but this really did come to me in a dream, I woke up in the middle of the night probably anxiety stricken about whether I’d made the right decision about leaving a safe and secure high profile job and for some reason mushrooms popped into my head! That was it! - that was my niche! that was my symbol...and so my mushrooms were spawned.....they may be hidden, they may be small or they may be a focal feature of the piece...but they are there’ and shrooms of all kinds have been displaying themselves to many of my clients since interacting with me, purchasing from me or simply being around me. I personally think its a sign and its time to spread my mushroom positivity to you all.
