Student shout out!

Isabella has only been doing ballet since September, and just took her grade 1 exam 😱

Following an Easter fun day last year, she enrolled at Ballaré for the summer term, but then broke her toe and couldn’t attend.

Since September, she has worked so hard and achieved a grade 1 level exam in 6 months, when the regular study time is 18 months!

And to top it off last week she broke another toe, and was put in a surgical boot at A&E.

Determined to see the exam through, she performed today as if it had never happened.

Isabella, you get my incredible fighting spirit and bravery award, well done you 👏🏻🫶🏻👏🏻

❤️ What a day at BSPA! ❤️

We’ve had a VERY busy day of ISTD Imperial Ballet Exams. Huge credit to the students for all their hard work and dedication to doing their very best, you all looked so beautiful🌟

Jessica, Phoebe, Slava, Florence, Sophie, Charlotte, Daisy, Molly, Martha, Florence, Ayla & Julianna took their PRIMARY Exam - all by themselves, with no teacher in with them for support and having 21 exercises to remember!

Ava, Isabella, Talia & Matilda took their GRADE 1 Exam, and looked so grown up in their big girl leotards!

Hannah, Ella & Emily took their GRADE 5 Exam, and got over their nerves to do so many unset exercises which they were unable to prepare for!

Ailee, Amelie & Alex (the 3 A’s) took their INTERMEDIATE Exam. This is the first of 3 vocational major exams and the pre-requisite level that must be achieved to be allowed to train as a ballet teacher. It also comes with UCAS points.

Amelia took her ADVANCED 1 Exam, all by herself. This is an extremely hard exam, of a very high technical level, 75 minutes long, and at just 15, Amelia is the youngest candidate Ballaré has ever entered at this level.

A huge well done to everyone, and thank you to all the parents for following so many instructions, and to Sue for her lovely music and great manner and support of the children. Thank you also to Burraton Community Centre for accommodating us and being great hosts.

Quotes of the day:

To me - you look like a Hawaiian dancer today.
To the examiner - am I in the next grade now then? 😂

That’s it from me, over and out, enjoy the rest of half term and WELL DONE!! 👏🏻🌟

It’s Ballet Exam Day EVE!!

One more sleep 🤩

In addition to the information per grade below, here are some extra pointers:

🌟 No nail polish

🌟 No tattoos (not real obviously as one parent thought I meant 😂)

🌟 No earrings - if you can take these out beforehand at home it makes the hour before calmer!)

Get an early night tonight and see you all tomorrow 🥰

Huge congratulations to Emilia who took her Grade 5 ISTD Ballet Exam this week! 👏🏻

Emilia is away next week when our main exam session is, so she opted to take it remotely all by herself - and she did a brilliant job! 🌟

Well done Emilia and have a lovely holiday 🛫

This week is Children’s Mental Health week, a subject that is close to my heart.

The theme for 2026 is ‘Places to Be’, with an emphasis on the places children feel safe and happy, and this is my number one desire for the students at BSPA when they come to dance with us.

I have just completed a Level 2 qualification in children and young people’s mental health, with BMET College, which I undertook as part of my continuing dedication to supporting young people to feel their best and I am now training to be a counsellor alongside dance teaching, (which will always be my first love!).

Here are the tips I try to share with my students:

🧠 Mental health is just as important as physical health. Our mental health is about how we feel on the inside. Just like our bodies, our minds need care too 💐

💛 Talk about feelings: It’s okay to feel happy, sad, worried, or angry. Talking to a trusted adult can really help.

💛 Get enough rest: Sleep helps our brains feel calm and ready for the day.

💛 Move your body: Playing, walking, dancing, or sports can help us feel better.

💛 Take breaks from screens: Time away from phones and tablets helps our minds rest.

💛 Try calming activities: Drawing, reading, breathing slowly, or listening to music can help when things feel overwhelming.

💛 Stay connected: Spending time with friends, family, and people who care about you helps you feel safe and supported.

💛 Ask for help: If feelings feel too big, it’s always okay to ask for help—you don’t have to handle things alone.

Everyone has big feelings sometimes. Being kind to yourself and others helps keep our minds healthy 🫶🏻
