The Barons' Charter

The Barons' Charter Celebrating 800 years of Magna Carta with a Barons trail in Salisbury launching this summer. In partnership with Wild In Art and Trussell Trust.

Working in partnership with Wild in Art we are bringing you this exciting public art event. Wild in Art is the UK’s leading creative producer of mass participation art events, and they have designed and created for us these new Baron sculptures.

2015 sees the 800th anniversary of the sealing of the Magna Carta (or ‘Great Charter’), the most celebrated document in English History which is at the h

eart of the process that led to the rule of constitutional law. The English barons who were wealthy land owners were integral to the writing of the charter, together with King John. It was written largely in an attempt to prevent civil war. Salisbury’s Chapter House is now the home to the best preserved original remaining copy of the document in England. The sculpture trail celebrates this historic occasion with decorated 3D Barons displayed all over the city. We will commission local and noted artists to create individually designed sculptures to form a free, fun art trail of discovery, learning and entertainment in Salisbury. Working with the Salisbury Cathedral and Wild in Art teams, there will also be an education programme linked to this project. The Barons’ charter project is designed to engage young people with their own smaller sculpture. Our ultimate aim is to engage as much of the community as possible with far reaching benefits for Salisbury whilst raising awareness of the work of the Trussell Trust. The Trussell Trust works hard restoring dignity and reviving hope through community projects tackling poverty and exclusion in the UK and Bulgaria. Our vision is for a world where people of all backgrounds are included and have the opportunity to live life to the full with hope for the future. Our mission is to develop, run, and enable communities to replicate sustainable projects that combat poverty and exclusion, sharing our experiences to raise awareness of the issues. Following the trail in Salisbury, the artworks will be auctioned to raise invaluable funds for the work we do in preventing UK hunger.
