Day 4 - The History & Practice of Sashiko.
The history of sashiko stitching has been a joy to immerse myself in. A traditional Japanese hand stitching technique that originated in rural Japan. What started as a practical method born out of the necessity for mending and reinforcing clothing has developed over hundreds of years. It is an exquisite practice with motifs inspired by nature and carrying symbolic meaning.
We are never to old to learn and we should always celebrate and acknowledge the cultural history of the arts we are inspired to create.
