Samuel Pepys is No 1 of my Visitors series.

Today he’s going back into the kiln to be glazed. The colour will actually be very dark: black, green, red but the white you can see is the clear glaze that goes over all the colour.

I often put off mounting sculptures onto plinths, but I don’t know why because it’s quite good fun!

Part 3: I love working with other artists, especially those in a different medium like this group of musicians. My first idea was to have groups of singers on the tops of skyscrapers in London, singing across the void between them. Sunset. It’d be great - but super hard to organise!

I suppose I could’ve invited anyone to collaborate in this Nocturne workshop - they didn’t have to be professional musicians, but this group of artists brought two special things to the game: first they all have a fantastic ear so could replicate the recording, and second none of them felt uncomfortable making these bizarre animal noises and worried about looking silly!

Part 2: Nocturne grew out the despair you feel when you think about species loss and global heating, but I suppose its viewpoint is irrationally optimistic - a dream that it could all be fixed.

For me being an artist could be very solitary, I could spend all day in my studio listening to podcasts and not seeing anyone, but part of my practice involves collaborating with other artists and I love it!

This week I’ll be training a group of volunteers for TouchPoint, a fantastic charity in Stansted in Essex. This is a quick test to see which air dry clay is best for the workshop I have planned. I don’t usually use air dry, but in this instance it’s the best solution.
