One week to go and it is time to meet another one of our performers. Please all meet the talented Laura Sommerville
Laura was born and brought up in Kilmarnock in the West of Scotland. At the age of eighteen Laura moved to London to study acting at the Italia Conti Academy on the BA(Hons) Acting Course. Laura graduated in July 2010 and went on to play the leading role of Mina in the UK National Tour of Liz Lochhead's 'Dracula'.
Since graduating Laura has played many leading roles in independent films and took part in Theatre Uncut 2011, playing the role of Lisa in 'Open Heart Surgery'. Laura also has a strong background in children's theatre, having played Jill in 'Jack and the Beanstalk', a pantomime UK tour of primary schools, which she loved!
Laura spent a summer season on the entertainment team at Haven Craig Tara for the first part teaching drama and singing to holiday guests and then went on to be a FunStar, running kids' clubs and dance classes, as well as performing in the evening shows. Laura became Principal of Stagecoach Saffron Walden in December 2013 and loves sharing her passion for the performing arts with her students. She has directed and choreographed many musical theatre productions with Stagecoach and charitable organisations, including Phantom of the Opera, which was her favourite, and has prepared students for LAMDA exams throughout Cambridgeshire and Essex. Laura is passionate about raising awareness of mental health with young people and is a Pediatric and Mental Health First Aider. She is currently studying Psychology at MSc Level at London Metropolitan University and hopes to go on to a doctorate in Educational Psychology. Laura is also currently partnering with Creative Walden in directing a radio play to raise awareness of eating disorders. She is delighted to be performing today to support the Maddi Foundation.
