Today is the day of the concert and it’s time to meet our final performer

Meet Sam La Roche

Sam trained at East 15 acting school and has been performing for many years. He is a singer, song writer and actor and spent many years as the front man of a Christian rock band which he took on tour through the UK and Europe.

Like Lucy, Sam was also picked to play one of the Lead characters in a new play by Jess Dickinson called Burnt which I was due to direct but like all theatre plans over the past few years was shelved due to the Pandemic. We are hoping to pick this up again in 2022.

Sam now leads worship in the church he attends and plays gigs in his spare time.
He also has his own podcast and really enjoys his work with Wolf Fitness.

Sam is hoping to get back into theatre and audition for local groups in the near future.

Sam will also be the sound technician for the event.

Less then 24 hours to go and it’s time to meet our younger performer. Meet Lauren

Lauren is our youngest performer today and is one of the most motivated 12 year olds I have ever met. She has worked very hard on her performing and was the youngest person to be cast as a principle dancer in Saffron Players Peter Pan.

Lauren loves singing, dancing and also playing the piano.

We were all very impressed with Laurens voice when
she sang Ed Sheerans Photograph at the after show party which was given the loudest applause of the night.

If Lauren continues this motivation and hard work I am confident she will go on to have a great career in theatre.

3 days to go….

Not all hero’s wear capes but this man does.

It gives me great pleasure to introduce you to the legend John ‘Super Cooper’ Byatt who will be performing his Tommy Cooper style magic comedy show on the 14th August.

John Byatt was recently 'Highly Commended' in the Uttlesford District Council Making A Difference Awards for his fundraising.

John Byatt has been fundraising for local charities for many decades. As a teenager he ran 56 miles from Saffron Walden to Clacton, with a friend in a pram to raise funds for RNLI. In the 1970's he produced the local Scouts ‘Gang Shows’ to raise funds for restoring the Saffron Walden Scout & Guides headquarters. At 50 he cycled 250 miles across India to raise £3,000 for Mencap. At 60 he did a 10-day Thailand Jungle Expedition to raise £5,000 for Addenbrooke's Charitable Trust. A year later he trekked through Cuba for East Anglia's Children's Hospices - EACH. John has also been involved with fundraising Accuro (Care Services) and Support 4 Sight. As a Saffron Players founding and committee member he is always first to suggest a local charity for the group to put buckets out for after each Pantomime performance, as well as entertaining the audiences with his magic before each show. Most recently John has been helping Save Our Maddi Appeal during the global pandemic.

4 days to go and it’s time to meet another one of our talented performers for our concert for Save Our Maddi Appeal on 14th August.

Meet Lucy Glover.

Lucy is a third generation performer and has been performing for a decade with the Saffron Players.
Lucy is not only a great singer but an excellent actress and can play any role.

Lucy has played many roles over the years including Cinderella, Robin Hood, Aladdin, and was one of the show stealers in Alice in Wonderland when she played the Chesire Cat. Working with Lucy over the past 3 years has been a joy as she is one of the hardest working actresses I know and always puts a 100% in all her performances.

Lucy was also picked to play one of the lead characters in a new play by Jess Dickinson called Burnt which I was due to direct but like all theatre plans over the past few years was postponed due to the Pandemic. We are hoping to pick this up again in 2022.

I also recently worked with Lucy through Journey Through Performance when we were invited to carry out 6 workshops for the students at RAB.

Lucy also works with children at a local nursery and has been known to smash out a nursey rhyme or two.

5 days to go until our concert and it’s time to meet our next performer

Meet the talented Erin Impey

Erin has recently been excepted into the Urdang Academy where she will start a 3 year BA Hons musical theatre degree.

Erin has spent the last decade working on her craft and has been a member of Stagecoach for 10 years. During this time she has performed many times appearing in many Stagecoach performances. She she played one of the orphans in Annie at the Corn Exchange alongside Sue Pollard.

I first heard Erin sing 5 years ago in the Saffron Walden Music Hall Society where she sang I dreamed a dream and was very impressed. I am looking forward to sharing the stage with her as part of our Les Miserables set.

Erin is a gifted talented girl and has the potential to go all the way to the West end after her training.

Come and see this future star sing before you have to pay Westend prices.

One week to go and it is time to meet another one of our performers. Please all meet the talented Laura Sommerville

Laura was born and brought up in Kilmarnock in the West of Scotland. At the age of eighteen Laura moved to London to study acting at the Italia Conti Academy on the BA(Hons) Acting Course. Laura graduated in July 2010 and went on to play the leading role of Mina in the UK National Tour of Liz Lochhead's 'Dracula'.
Since graduating Laura has played many leading roles in independent films and took part in Theatre Uncut 2011, playing the role of Lisa in 'Open Heart Surgery'. Laura also has a strong background in children's theatre, having played Jill in 'Jack and the Beanstalk', a pantomime UK tour of primary schools, which she loved!
Laura spent a summer season on the entertainment team at Haven Craig Tara for the first part teaching drama and singing to holiday guests and then went on to be a FunStar, running kids' clubs and dance classes, as well as performing in the evening shows. Laura became Principal of Stagecoach Saffron Walden in December 2013 and loves sharing her passion for the performing arts with her students. She has directed and choreographed many musical theatre productions with Stagecoach and charitable organisations, including Phantom of the Opera, which was her favourite, and has prepared students for LAMDA exams throughout Cambridgeshire and Essex. Laura is passionate about raising awareness of mental health with young people and is a Pediatric and Mental Health First Aider. She is currently studying Psychology at MSc Level at London Metropolitan University and hopes to go on to a doctorate in Educational Psychology. Laura is also currently partnering with Creative Walden in directing a radio play to raise awareness of eating disorders. She is delighted to be performing today to support the Maddi Foundation.
